I have heard through the grapevine that ecp sell the parts for more than they paid for them, where will this rip off end?

ECP is in the business of reselling parts. That's the only place they make money. Just like Asda sells milk for more than they pay the farmer. But a garage makes money on labour, that's where I expect to pay the money.

I'm with the OP on this!!

I saw two mechanics from our local garage in the pub the other night.

    Laughing and joking they were!

And if that wasn't bad enough they were drinking that "reassuringly expensive" Stella Artois.

Nobody in their right mind buys alcohol from a shop. Brew your own and save 90% by omitting the tax.

In which case, I suggest that you find a different garage.
Whenever I have had any work carried out, the garage I use always lets me know up front how much it will cost and if they find anything else that they think needs doing, they will call me for approval before doing it.

Four pages of replies to your opening post and just about every single one disagreeing with you.
    Doesn't this tell you something?

It tells me that you're all garage owners, you're actually defending people who rip off customers. Very few garages give a price up front, 90% are dishonest.

You're not aware that you have to belt up in the back - by law? You will be fined if you do not. Not the driver unless you are under 18.

I belt up when I see a pig. It's my life, and none of their business.

But it does happen. Saying it doesn't because it's "never happened to you" would be like me saying road accidents don't happen because in 34 years I've never had one.

Might happen on the odd occasion, but if you worry about things that happen once in a lifetime, you need psychiatric help.

I'd never use a garage that was happy to fit my parts unless I was supplying Genuine Parts made from Unobtanium.

I shall be painting one of my cars shortly that is close to 50 yrs old. I will probably be suppying NOS Panels. There is no chance in the world the body shop could get hold of these.

I'm asking the garage to do a job for me. Fit that part to that car. Quite simple. They're not responsible for anything except if it's not fitted right.

I don't think you can brew gin & tonic and not everyone wishes to spend significant time brewing their own beer or cider. I sometimes also go to restaurants rather than cook my own food.

Your views, which started life on the iniquity of garages, certainly have covered a wide variety of topics and they all have in common a world record attempt on the most dross that can be talked by a poster imaginable.

And they're declining to take the job on. Which is absolutely their right as a business. Do you get it now?

What about the life of the person in front of you? Does that person who you likely know have any rights over whether you crush them to death?

You're not only deluded but inconsiderate too.
