Hope all is ok and you've had a good summer!

  • Hi @hugglemonster thanks for checking in. I hadn’t realised it’s been so long since I last posted.

It’s been a bit of a mixed summer. DC2 had his arm broken in the school yard during the last week of term. I think it was stupidity on the other boys part, rather than anything malicious, but it meant DC2 missed out on the rugby tournaments and trials he’d been looking forward to. He’s out of plaster now though and healing nicely.

DD had her GCSE results. She’s had a tough year so the results were better than she was expecting but not enough to get onto the A level course she wanted to do. So we had lots of tears but managed to get an appointment with the school and she’s finally been accepted but has had to change her subject choice slightly.

We also had some awful news about a distant family member who was killed in a tragic accident on the water. I hadn’t seen her since she was a young girl (she was only in her 20s now) but my brother and his family were very close to her and it’s devastated us all.

In better news, our accommodation business has done really well throughout July and August. We’ve been able to pay off a chunk of the credit card debt (that was taken out to fund setting up the accommodation) before it’s accrued any interest. I’m also on track to be able to pay off my car finance in December.

Our personalised gift business has slowed down though, mainly because I’ve not done enough advertising. I need to get this back on track now so we can make the most of the Christmas trade (sorry to mention the C word so early). I’ve updated my budget planner up to the end of the year and have calculated that we need to bring in £2,525 between the businesses by the end of December. I’ve been doing some work with my business/lifestyle coach (all free at the moment but I’d like to be in a position to join her membership eventually) and I’m confident it should be achievable.

We’ve been approved for a grant for a heat pump and solar panels. The work starts next week and I’m really grateful because our old oil boiler is making an awful noise and smells awful at times.

Great news on the grant and your accommodation business.

Sorry about the distant family member. What a shock.

  • Glad you are settling in to your new home and way of life. Good news about the accommodation business.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

  • Thanks both.

After I last posted I realised I forgot to factor the cost of living payment into my spreadsheet so that brings my minimum earnings target down to £2,200.

Today has been a day of decluttering. I’ve mainly focused on my bedroom and have a pile of clothes ready to sell when eb@y next have a promo on selling fees. I’ve also rediscovered some clothes I’d forgotten about so can put some
more outfits into circulation. I could do with some flat boots for the autumn/winter but other than that my
wardrobe is pretty well kitted out.

It is, I just need to actually wear them now!

Despite yesterday’s forecast of rain, it turned out to be a lovely day. I managed to get 3 loads of washing done and almost all was line dried before the heavens finally opened.

6 members of DHs family came to visit so I was glad to be able to sit outside. My FIL always winds up the children and the dog, but it’s a bit more tolerable outdoors.

All the DCs have gone to school today so the house is very quiet. DC3s school have phoned me to say he turned down all of the lunch options! He gets free school meals so I don’t want to make him packed lunches if I can help it and I’m hoping sitting with the other children will encourage him to try new things.

Awkward when he turns down a free lunch. Some kids ask for school packed lunches as there are sometimes different table seating arrangements

  • There’s only 14 children in the school  :D so I think they all just sit together no matter what they are eating. He’s just a bit of a fuss pot (probably as a results of his allergies and us being overly cautious about introducing foods). He does eat a variety of fruit, veg etc but doesn’t like things like pizza. His teacher said he did attempt some of his lunch.
