    I agree with this.

If all the obvious causes of a burning smell have been ruled out (including neighbours up to no good) then one possibility to consider is a medical condition. There are a variety of medical conditions (including some relatively minor common ones like sinusitis) that can cause us to smell something which isn't there, 'burning' being one common false sense.

A visit to the GP to discuss the symptoms might help.

I have epilepsy and I have several types of auras prior to a seizure, one is smelling burning. I panic when I smell burning thinking I'm going to collapse.

Yup a visit to the gp couldn't hurt.

No it is not a medical condition. Sigh.

I still think a trip to your GP would be a sensible move, but it is your choice of course.

Well, I don't even know what to think of this but it is like 4:00 in the morning, and I woke up around 3:30 and this is the first time ever that I have not smelled the usual smells that I do in the middle of the night. The night before this it was the worst night ever with the smells and I literally was fearing for my life.

Yesterday I had read someone's post on here saying something about that they had a similar problem as I do and that it had something to do with the plug arching or something like that. I can't even find their post now.

And I wasn't sure what they were even talking about so I thought I would try this.... They had asked me were their any plugs around where the smells are?

So I went into the kitchen and where the boiler is, I just unplugged the boiler itself, and plugged it back in. And then I realised there were lots of plugs behind the easy chair in the living room behind the living room door. The entrance of the doorway of the living room is where alot of plugs are. It is where the Housing Association had installed this sort of 'Lifeline' box with these antennae and stuff on them and plugs that plug into one of those white strips. So yesterday I unplugged and plugged back every one of those plugs. The entrance of the doorway of the living room is where it also smells alot too. There are also the British Telecom plugs for the Broadband back there.

Okay now so for the rest of the day I had forgotten all about that but there were a couple of times where I smelled just a faint smell of that smell in the doorway... and now virtullay nothing at night. Last night had been the worst night ever, I guess I mean the night before this night.

I am just really astounded about this! And it really makes no sense as to why all these crazy thins about the boiler and radiators that have been going on.

There was this point yestersday during the day where these really awful chemical smells were going on in the hallway and even in the bathroom which was something different that had never happened before, but now I cannot remember if it was before or after I did this plugging and unplugging things.

And the only reason I even had thought of those plugs from the Lifeline thing was because yesterday before I had even posted any of thios I had thought in desperation about maybe using this Lifeline thing to press the red button and the Housing Assocation would notify I guess some EMT People out to come and get me and take me to the hospital. Then I could get THEM to verify the smells. LOL!

Anyway I really am astonished now and I don't know what to think about all of this?

I smelled only a very faint smell of the fuel oil smell by the living room radiator now.

What does all of this mean? Just what I need, hardly any smells yet not solved really, and these Church Perople possibly are going to come by to verify the smells and tonight for the first time there aren't any.

I have to wonder if this is going to come back again? This is so weird!

I would be scared to even talk to the Gas Repair Men about any of this eletriccal stuff, because honestly, almost every time they mess with the boiler they seem to make things worse. Does this mean there may be something wrong with the entire Electrical system here including the boiler or what?

I guess that I should just wait for a few days and see what happens with the smells.

Keep the plugs out and see how it is tomorrow. Might well be electrical but just the plug rather than the whole system

But why would the fuel oil type smell be so much worse at night though in the livng room and by the living room door and hallway?

Could it has something to do with dampness or maybe lack of use during the night? I dont get it. I mean if its to do with the electrical system.

Okay I am editing this... well now the fuel oil smell is back at the living rom doorway. But last night was SO much better than the night before.

I have to go to sleep now, I am so tired from all the nearly sleepless nights.

Perhaps you have a window open during the day or you get used to the smell so it doesn't appear strong like it does when you've been in bed for hours then go in.
