So you tried to return it to the first store with mud and grass on the pegs and tent respectively. Then tried to return it to store 2 with grass over it.... are you insane? You feel aggrieved because they won't willingly take your used tat back?? You return goods in new condition and get a refund. That's how returns work. You don't get to dirty goods up then return them without any comeback.

Open it up in the house, clean it, get rid of all your !!!!!! grass. Basically restore it to pristine condition then try another store. If you can't be arsed to do that then keep it.

If you bought and paid online you will have certain rights as another member has said, but that doesn't mean they don't. They can reduce the refund or pursue you if you breached your duty of care

She opened it up and asked, 'did you peg it down'
i said yes to stabalise it,

    ...

I get to the other store and same questions although i just said i rolled it out and noticed there was only 4 tent poles when the 500xl has 5, so rolled it back up and decided take it back.

Clean it and take back to a different Argos........and when asked "has been opened/used"........say NO

I guess it depends on your morality, but his sounds like a bit of a slippery slope towards 'Fraud by misrepresentation'.

In the eyes of the law, intentionally lying in order to get a £300 refund, is fraud.

Exercising your consumer rights is admirable, but maybe not going as far as fraud...
  • Great reply thankyou and on closer inspection i found a fault on it so i will return it uncleaned to my nearest store.
Thanks for the advice peeps, keep up the good work

Is this fault something like a rip or tear or is it something that is obviously a manufacturing defect that there is no way you could have caused it?

I have no idea if Argos have a way of putting notes agains receipts but if the former it may already be logged that you've attempted to return it twice and it would be convienient that it suddenly has a fault that could be user damage.

There!!!8217;s also the distinct possibility that someone will send a link to this thread to Argos head office to alert them of the potential fraud so they can put their stores on alert...........gotta go, got things to be doing.

Large retailers and brands will routinely have robot searches set up to search consumer forums, social media etc to find people mentioning their brand - so the people in Argos marketing may well find this thread.

Whether they read the thread in detail and/or decide to do anything is another question.

Although TBH, comments are often just analysed by a computer for 'sentiment analysis' - i.e. do people seem to be saying good things or bad things about Argos?

My kids are away for the weekend and it's too hot to go into the garden so being at somewhat of a loose end, I've followed up on your post.
A copy of this thread has gone to Argos (e-mail and Facebook message) so hopefully they will be looking out for returns of a vango avington 500 5 person tent.

I may well get slated for this but coming on this site for advice on consumer rights is one thing.
Coming here and being advised to do something fraudulent and taking that advice is different.
