  • I'm referring to the Civil Service pension - which is the same age for both sexes/has been for "goodness knows how long".

I believe the State Pension age for both sexes most probably has equalised by now - I was caught by mine being upped noticeably and had to live on the Civil Service pension only for some time on retirement (ie before the rest of my pension turned up).

Afaik I know I am now having an exactly equal life/income in all respects to an equivalent man (ie same age) - now that I'm old enough I no longer have to pay out "medical" expenses women (but not men) have during their fertile years (£25 per week on relevant weeks that a female MP said recently for dealing with physical issues only women have - ie the "period poverty" she was giving a talk about).

The SP only equalised this year - you say you were caught (past tense) - you still received it before your male counterparts.

However, this inequality went your way, so presumably it is ok?

Also, you can buy 20 tampons for £1 at Tesco, that MP must be in serious medical distress if she requires £25 worth so money is probably the least of her worries.

Inequality is bad, but there is plenty of it that works in women's favour.

There are loads of houses like this in Reading and Exeter, too.

I can't work out what the advantage is.

I note your own words "The SP......equalised this year". So you admit it is now equalised. End of - both sexes get it at the same age.

Case closed - as that inequality is now over - past tense - history.

The scheme this thread is about and equity release aren't "past tense/in the history books" - yet. I'm not aware of any proposed legislation - yet - to outlaw these practices.

That is sex discrimination all right. Northern Irish men can't have abortions at all!

I know you’re trying to be funny, but it’s too serious for that. Women are getting arrested and having criminal records for ending a pregnancy or even helping their teenage daughters end a pregnancy.

I agree it is serious, but how is it sex discrimination?

    No she isnt.

I took it that that is her way of saying that isnt sex discrimination.

After all - one could argue that men can't have abortions and can be put in the position of being a parent against their will. Women can have abortions and therefore have the more favourable position - as they cant be forced into being a parent against their will.

....and...yes...I expect she has every sympathy (as do I) with a Society that makes it difficult/impossible for women to have abortions. I certainly feel very sorry for Northern Irish women in that position and thank goodness they are that one step nearer to having the same rights as all other British women. At least it's that little bit easier than it was for them - and, hopefully, they will soon no longer have to rely on our English medics to help them out of a situation like that. Thank goodness we do help them - whilst they still need it - and our help is freely given and it's right that it is. It will be a blessing come the day life is as easy for them in that respect as it is for us.

But it's not a sex discrimination issue.

Women are being denied appropriate healthcare because they are women.

Men are not being denied appropriate healthcare. None of the care they might need is criminalised.

No SRP hasn't equalized yet. I got my first payment last week at 64 years and almost 10 months so just beating a man of the same age to it.

£25 per week seems ridiculous to me. The own label stuff in supermarkets cost pennies not pounds.

Women still have longer life expectancy than men. Even children born today are expected to have different life expectancy so no sign of it equalizing in the next 80 years.

But men do get denied health care (obviously not abortions) for example teenage girls get a vaccination against HPV, boys don't.

Not equalized yet, it will in the next few months before the end of the year.
