Pay gap on equity release schemes:

= women currently being paid less than men - in equity release schemes and/or being given less released capital from their property.

Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face though. If you boycotted every area in life where women didn’t get 100% entirely equal treatment (yet, hopefully!) you wouldn’t be able to do much at all, not even work!

    Avoid at ALL costs.

I generally agree with your view but I am not sure on this point.

I can see a situation where in ten years or so (when I am 75) this could work for me. I have no dependents and may need a few bob in my pocket. My house suits me now but, legs, back are a bit rickety and may go. There's is a nice penthouse on under this scheme in my area with a smashing view and a lift in the block.

That would be a pleasant place to spend my later years - and one I might be able to afford using HomeWise.

You definitely need to go in with your eyes open - but I don't think it should be ruled out for everybody.

It amazes me that Rightmove, a publicly quoted company, would getting involved in advertising such a disreputable scheme. Maybe they need to rethink their policy on this kind of rubbish.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

You have one right here, married to someone considerably below pension age.
You're a single male, are you? Does your wife know this? ;)

Out of interest - I know we are still currently discriminated against for this sort of thing (ie equity release and these schemes). We've found recently that actresses/BBC presenters and the like are still currently being paid less if they are female.

But I can't think of any other ways where we are still discriminated against - afaik as long as we avoid these sort of schemes or working as a presenter or actress we are safe from sex discrimination. Are there are any other ways sex discrimination still applies that I've overlooked?

    Don't see this.

There is nothing illegal about the scheme - nor is it a scam. While there are a lot of caveats about it, it could work for some people.

The key thing surely, like any home purchase, is for the buyer to exercise due diligence and make sure it is the right deal for them.

I was tackling the question of whether any male aged 69 would want a 5 bed house, and also speculating in the part you've not quoted about how the scheme would likely be impacted by the existence of a spouse......not very successfully, by the look of it!:rotfl:

Oh, Money, sex discrimination is not as bad as it used to be but is nevertheless alive and well, just rather better at hiding itself.

When I took a lump sum in exchange for some of my pension I got more than a man of my age, so discrimination definitely does still happen but it isn't always women that lose out.
  • I know that it can go the other way too - and I equally disapprove of that.

Men tend to "get it in the neck" more on the personal relationships front from what I can see - roll on the male Pill.
