Morning hello.gif

We have a date for the funeral, 13th august. It could have been sooner but my aunt wanted a do in a certain place. Everyone else wanted a certain pub, for good reasons - nan had a lot to do with the Salvation Army and they often had lunches out at that pub, gramp's wake was there, they used to have family fun days when we were little so we'd all go and play games, jump on the bouncy castle, eat BBQs then go to nan and gramp's house afterwards (they lived nearby). Lots of memories, and the family have carried on using the pub ever since. Aunt is doing this to impress her money friends, who are actually lovely people and don't care about this sort of thing, they're certainly not snobs. We've all insisted on the pub – we weren't letting that go, it's too important to everyone – but first we have to go to the posh place for two sodding hours. I very much doubt we'll see much of aunt afterwards, she surrounds herself with money people (while being too lazy to earn any herself!) and now that nan's gone, she'll feel no family obligations/ties/just-want-to-visit-them and will disappear from sight. Hopefully.

That's my moan over for the day :D

Wait – one more! She bought (with money from nan's bank account) some flowers from the grandchildren. Our age range is 38–49, I'm sure we're old enough to have chosen our own. Not one of us got a say in it, she just did it and told people afterwards. Tempers are fraying! I wanted to choose my own flowers so will still be doing that, the others will be too.

I've definitely finshed moaning now, I promise :D

dumpling I had something to say to you but then read nmlc's post and she's already said it, and in a much better way than I could have xx

My vac arrived, I was so excited then realised I'd have to wait while it charged, lol. I've tried it out, it's fab, so light and easy to use. It whipped those dog hairs off the sofas with no effort – I was beginning to wonder if Scampi's fur was barbed :D

I'm ready to fling clothes on and go out for a walk but it's mr tru's day off and Scampi has decided he'd rather climb onto the bed with him for a lie-in than go out with me :D I'll potter about down here for a while, once miss tru's left for work I'll have a pampering shower. I started going through the kitchen cupboards yesterday, they needed a good sort out so I'll finish that today.

I'm not editing my post, whenever I do get that silly !!!8729 thing and it's annoying.

Nels I'm speechless! I'm not good with this sort of thing so have no ideas for you but like you, I would still definitely do something for them.

Floss I bought the Dyson V8 Animal. I kept an eye on Amazon's prime day but unfortunately it wasn't reduced so I had to pay full price. FULL PRICE  :D

Nelski - I would go ahead with your plan but maybe deliver the flowers and card yourself. Everyone always says not to buy anything but it's still nice to receive something and it will make you feel so much better.
dumpling - Sorry you were so upset, we're all here to support you, don't forget that. Lovely encouraging words from nmlc
. (Well done by the way!)

Well, DS1 and the DGC have gone home, it's the other Granny's birthday so they are going to visit there today. It was a great visit, swimming was particularly entertaining!

Builders should be finishing their bit today, the fences are just about up and after one of the neighbours saying he would pay half for his side he's now not happy with the height of the fence and spent last night pulling down the old one that is on his side, huffing and puffing that it doesn't look good. Well, it looks great from my side and it's staying high so I have some privacy!

Rain looks to be set in for the day so the washing has gone on the pulley, haven't used it for ages and had to give it a dust!

Hope you all have a happy Friday. Take care. XX

Morning everyone,

Warm here again today and we are meant to hit 30 degrees again by Monday, don’t mind the sunshine it’s the lack of rain that’s getting us down. I was talking to the yard owner yesterday and she apologised for the lack of grass in the paddocks, which is silly as it’s not her fault, but we are now having to put hay out for Lu. She’s not dropping loads of weight but horses do need to eat for around 16 hours of the day, albeit trickle feeding. Btw she saw the farrier yesterday and now has a very trim behind, unlike her Mum :rotfl:

Am hoping to get over to see DSIL today, the hospital is an hours drive away so aiming for just after lunch. Other than that it’s just a tidy through the house to keep things ticking over.

Wise and comprehensive advice from nmlc re weight management Dumpling, you can do this m’dear x
Oh Nels, that would have made me angry too!
Sorry that the Aunt is rather taking over TRU, am afraid that funerals and the like can really bring out the worst in people.

Hugs to all with worries and cares, have a good day folks x

Ancientofdays,
would it be ok for me to send you a private message later?

Yes of course, I may be out for part of the day so don't worry if you don't get an instant response, I'm not ignoring you.

Nelski, I do wonder if this is part of your mum's need to be centre stage, I would be very upset and I would still send some flowers and a card.

Tru, what a naughty auntie, I remember when one of my older extended family members died, my mother didn't actually say that she didn't want anyone from our part of the family to go to the funeral but she hinted at it. And when we were all speaking to his widow, she announced that she was there representing the family and I'm afraid that I'm a stroppy old bat and pointed out that we were actually there in our own right.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Holly

Nelski I agree with camelot, I would go ahead and give flowers and a card.

Dumpling so you are struggling, when I wanted to loose weight I found making small changes to my diet, at first, helped. Maybe just not having a biscuit with my coffee, or changing meals slightly, new potatoes instead of chips or slightly smaller portions. I didn't feel I was missing out on things When I saw I had lost a little weight it encouraged me to do more.

Still hot here, no rain, so not much planned
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

Morning all, raining in Glasgow.

Dumpling - I’m so with you! And nmlc is spot on, it’s a ‘head’ thing. Many years ago my head allowed me to lose five stone, roll forward and it’s back. It’s stress and emotion. I’m training my head again since DM’s been in hospital- I just can’t turn to biscuits all the time. I’m developing a habit of distracting myself whenever I head for the fridge, the biscuit box or chocolate stash. Currently it’s closing one nostril and taking five breaths through the other one. :rotfl:

Last night DM and I had a chat about her ‘future’ as she still wasn’t making any progress. My suspicion was that she was fearful about walking. Anyway, we discussed about how I should move back to Glasgow and into her very large second reception room and the changes we’d both have to make. It was a sad thing to talk about.

This morning, at 8am I suddenly hear her shuffling down the hallway to see me!:eek: That’s the furthest she’s walked for three weeks. My new suspicion is that she knows how much I love my cottage by the sea and realised that she had to make a bit more effort and pull herself round - she’s very prone to lapsing into gloom.

Of course, I workday change my life to support her when needed without question. May not be this year - fingers crossed.

Nelski - deep breathing helps.

Hugs to everyone, happy Friday.
