This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Today I want to catch up on a few jobs that I have put off because I’ve been out so much lately. The wall in the entrance hall needs a coat of emulsion yet again. I keep doing it every few weeks and have been since I moved here, I just never seem to be able to get in or out without scraping my bags along it.
The back garden and side paths all need sweeping as well. The path to the front door seems to be covered with small twigs from the tree in the front garden.
Dinner will be something yet to be liberated from the freezer. Probably some lamb steaks that I will have with salad and new potatoes, there is also some strawberry cheesecake in there so that will be dessert.
If I get through my list of jobs I will go for a walk around the park, and if it is too busy may get the bus to the local Country Park for a change.
It almost feels like getting back into a normal everyday pattern after having a holiday.
Have a god day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Yet again I can't sleep so I have been doing something productive and sorting out shopping and a meal plan for the week to come. It helps to keep my mind off my worries and also makes me think of interesting ways to eat up some of the food mountain I have managed to acquire over the past few months.
I watched Eat Well for Less last night and although the couple irritated me to death, the recipes looked nice so I am going to make the pulled pork and apricot and green bean salad on Sunday. I love pulled pork and it will be nice to try a different recipe to my usual one.
I had some bad news yesterday, I was summoned to see a doctor after filling in that questionnaire online the other day about my sore legs. It was not my usual GP, in fact I had never seen him before and to say he was harsh about my weight was an understatement. I left with the words You are killing yourself ringing in my ears. There is nothing that can be done about my sore and painful legs, it is a direct consequence of being so fat and they will only get worse. I feel very sad about it all but I will try to use his tough love approach to make some changes for the better. My diet has been appalling recently due to stress eating but the stress isn't going away so I need to find a healthier way to cope.
Oh well, sitting here feeling sorry for myself isn't going to help so I'm off to make a cup of tea and look for some more interesting recipes online. I'm always going to be a foodie but I can try and be healthy with it. I am not going to go to any more slimming clubs though as I have thrown enough money away over the years on them with very limited success.
Sorry for boring you all with my tale of woe, normal service will be resumed soon.
Hope you all have a lovely day doing nice things, take care xx0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
Dumpling you have had so much going on in your life, it isn't surprising that you have not been looking after yourself.
Holly, a country park sounds like a lively change.
I have boring stuff to do today, the Friday Tidy though it is less onerous now that I'm at home, I do a lot more through the week. There is only me that sees mess though.
Bedding nearly finished in the washing machine, I don't think any rain us forecast so that can go outside when OH gets up..
I think my shoulder is more or less back to normal, tge painful bit was that muscle that goes under the shoulder blade. Jaw is better too, fingers crossed for no abscess.
Been asked to an opera outing, la Traviata in November, something to look forward to.
I need breakfast.
Thinking about those of us who are unwell or worried, and those who need to retrain their rellies.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Another rubbish night for me but nothing new there. We "might" get a bit of rain later says the weatherman. Hope we are lucky as I get fed up of watering all the sad looking plants in the pots.
The Friday Tidy in store for today. Such fun. Other than that, not a lot is planned. I feel washed out before the day starts.
DUMPLING grr to that doctor for being so harsh and upsetting you so much. ((HUGS)) you have a lot to deal with.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need. Take care all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy start again but hot already. Rain/storms forecast for later, we'll see. I'll be pegging out a wash load once it's finished in the WM.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, veg. Tonight I'm not sure as we need to go to the big orange shed shop once DH gets home for further supplies for tomorrow - hope all this is going to be worth it!
Was semi productive yesterday I got the worktops cleaned down and everything not in daily use put into bags/boxes to be stored out of the way whilst work is being done tomorrow. Today I have just the top shelves of the base units to empty, 1 I did yesterday, the rest I'll do this morning once I get back from shopping.
dumpling - I completely understand how hard the weight thing is - it took me years to get in the right place mentally to be able to lose my weight and keep it off, I have put a bit back on but I'm nowhere near as big as I was, but I am looking to be more strict again with myself as I just don't want to go back to where I was. I worked to hard to put it all back on. I know this sounds selfish and self-centred with all that you have going on, but if you really want to loose the weight it has to be at the top of your priority list, it has to be what you think about morning, noon and night for a while at least. I've always had a battle with my weight, and it was only when I didn't attend a weight loss club that I actually got to a place mentally which meant I lost the weight and I have on the whole kept it off. My weight loss journey started in June 2009 and was a steady, some weeks staying the same, some putting on and some loosing, but took 2-3 years then I've maintained since. You just have to have the mindset, my whole relationship with food has changed (and like you I love cooking/eating am a foodie). I also thought my weight didn't affect my life, but it wasn't until I'd lost a stone or 2 when I realised that it did. At the start I just had my lightbulb moment and realised that I was approaching 40 years old and felt if I was fat and 40 I'd never get the weight off - so started my healthier lifestyle. In a lot of respects my diet is boring, but I love the food I eat and within 3 days of starting the IBS systems I used to have on a regular daily basis were almost gone, and I only get them now if I eat things I know cause me a problem.
I don't mean to offend or upset you but think of your children and grandchildren and hubby that need and love you, you need to be in a good place mentally and physically to enjoy them. I'm sure you'll find as I did once you get going with a healthier eating style you'll start to feel better - especially mentally - that's massive, it's a real game changer, I had a massive turnaround mentally when I walked past a mirror in a shop and realised I wasn't as fat as I always saw myself and wasn't the mess I thought and saw myself as.
Sorry that turned into a bit of an epic ......
Keep safe and well x

Ancientofdays,
would it be ok for me to send you a private message later?0 -
Morning all
Its a bit overcast here today but no rain due there is none on the weather app up until 2 August ish !
Off to work for me, but its Friday :jI don't think we are having a takeaway tonight, I still have not cooked the gammon so will put that in the sc before work and we can have it tonight with chips and coleslaw.
Not much on the agenda tonight will leave the housework till tomorrow.
Have good day all xx0 -
Hi again
Just popped back on to say to nmlc that I really appreciate what you wrote. You are right in that I haven't made my weight a priority and I am now paying the consequences. I do worry that I will have a heart attack and leave the children without a mum and that would be the last thing I would want for them. I've already made a start and made a sausage casserole for dinner tonight with so much veg in it the kids are going to complain :rotfl:. It is trying to find the right balance and time to do it. I promise to make time for myself to look after me for a while and that means eating much better food as well as starting to move around a bit more. I love reading your meal plans every day, you always have such nice food. Well done on losing your weight and more importantly keeping it off, it is so hard but worth it I'm sure.
The doctor may have been harsh but I think he has done me a big favour and I know I can always find support from you gorgeous lot on here. Thank you xx0 -
Hi all
Gorgeous day again although we may get a bit of rain later apparently must be the words hose pipe ban that has it coming:D
Had a be furious with mother day yesterday...whats new you yell...but she played a good one this time. In a nut shell she is lucky enough to have an amazing young couple living a few doors away who have been fantastic whilst I have not been able to get over. They have taken her shopping every week took her to the dentist and just generally kept an eye on her. So yesterday I rang mum to get their address so that I could send them some flowers and a card from me. She gave me the address and all was well. Literally 5 mins later I get a text from the couple saying not to buy them anything as they were happy to help......mum had come off the phone and got straight on to them to tell them about my plan......I was/am furious how could anyone be so mean to people that have been so kind. She told me that she did it because nobody likes surprises and anyway they may be out.:mad:
I have made it very clear what I think about this nasty turn and I ended up putting the phone down on her before I said something really bad. I will still make sure I thank the couple somehow so any ideas would be appreciated.
So plans today Friday tidy I guess ....had my fajitas last night and have one left for lunch. I did them on the table top grill and they were just gorgeous. Probably wont want much tonight but may resort to salad again
Have a lovely day all0 -
Morning again everyone
dumpling - pleased I haven't offended you, was worried I was a bit harsh! I've just found that my mindset and way I think about food has changed dramatically. I would never have gone out to eat and chosen salad, now if we go out for lunch I actively seek a salad dish, as I get withdrawal systems if I don't get salad! Also if we eat out/eat in and I'm full I stop eating - something I'd never have done previously, I went with the thought, I've paid for it and got to therefore eat it. At home this is much easier as you can prep and cook more accurate portion sizes. I've found now that I've eaten smaller portions for so long, if I eat too much I feel really yukky, so it stops me stuffing too much! I'm still not slim by any stretch of the imagination, and realistically should loose probably another 2 stone, but I've been there before but can't hold/maintain that weight, my weight just fluctuates too much and I have to watch EVERY mouthful, and I don't look nice, makes me look old and haggard! I prefer curvy with a bit of meat on my bones - hubby has no complaints either, although he never complained about my weight.
It's the mindset that will be your biggest asset, go mrs you can do this. Feel free to PM me if I can help/encourage in any way.
Keep safe and well x
