  • I'm having a problem to get them to accept my electricity reading. I have a dialeter which is difficult to read near a 10000 rollover point. They refuse to accept my reading is nearest 80000,saying it is 81000. Here is the meter... opinions please. You can see the 10000 dial is on 8 and the 1000 dial is on 0.so the true reading must be very close to 80000. I say it is 79964. Votes please!
    Friendly greeting!

I agree with you, but the 1000 dial has annoyingly hit 0 a little early. It'll resolve itself in a few hundred kWh.

Do you have a series of dated photos that show the run up to this point? Consumption could be extrapolated from those to validate the current reading.  I have in the past argued against a meter reader's incorrect meter reading* by sending the supplier my spreadsheet with a year's readings.  I currently have nearly a year of weekly photos like that since moving to a house with a similarly modern meter!

    * high up meter, short meter reader = all the right digits, but not necessarily in the right order!!

If the reading were to be 81***, then the '1000' dial would need to be reading somewhere between '1' & '2', and it's clearly not.

If the reading were to be 8096*, I would expect the '1000' dial to be reading almost '1', and it's clearly not.

So the correct reading must be 799** as you suggest.

Your reading is correct.  But dozy Orbit are on a different planet: this (somewhat wonky) meter reads 66531 but they don't agree ! They also think it measures the length of gas supplied rather than its volume.  Facepalm
    Dial meter gas
Their resultant bill would be about 3151kWh too high, around £90.

Agreed, the reading is unquestionably 79964, if they disagree they clearly do not know how to read the meter...
The defining dial is the '100', it is between 9 and 0 therefore the '1000' must be read as 9 since it cannot yet have reached the next digit which it is very close to.
Same goes for the 10,000, it will be very close to the next digit but not quite there making it a 7.

Wholesale prices are currently going up, does rates you list include VAT, Orbit quote rates are VAT exclusive hence question
