In VirtualDub you can 'shrink' the portion you want to upload using the various options- this is what I do and it is free. Super is also free for converting dvd to divx avi, and i use total video converter (which unfortunately isn't free, but I use it for everything)
Before I was aware how to do this, i actually converted the dvd to avi then reconverted it to avi again, it was the only way i could shrink the file lol!

Maybe you should change the resolution to the size usually applied by YouTube in order to reduce the file size further.

Hmmm....can't see why you are getting such large files.

Anyway, try using Super Video Splitter to split the video file.

virtualdub is pretty easy to use (well, I managed it!!) Super converts dvd into other formats.

Thinking about it, I'm sure virtualdub converts AND splits as there is an option for divx encoding on there. It's what I use for my youtube account. For example, I had a dvd of my band which was a huge file, I converted it (lowered the audio bitrate to 128), played about with the settings to shrink it even more, then i chopped the bits out i wanted, any time frame you like there is no limit or too little.

    320 x 240 resolution you mean
here is the reply I got from MagicDVDRipper Support you reckon this is the Software to invest my hard earned Cash in?

"Yes, some other users also use our software for YouTube, but I am sorry I don't know what exact parameters they set. Since YouTube support 320*240, you may also re-set the resolution of avi format to fit it. Please click "Options"->"Profile Editor..." and a "Manage your profiles" window will pop up. Then check the "avi" option and click the "Modify" button on that window and the "Modify Profile" window will pop up. Then re-set the resolution to 320*180 for the wide screen movie while 320*240 for the full screen movie on that window. You can also try to slow down the video bitrate and audio bitrate to minish the ripped file. You may have a try.

(When they mean Slow How Much Can I reduce ensuring I still get a decent Quality Video?)

About the choppy when previewing, maybe the default preview quality is too low for you. You may click the menu of our program "Options"->"Setting" and a settings window will pop up. Please choose "High" from the preview quality dropdown list on the general tab on that window. Then preview your DVD again.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

I do like Magicdvdripper but to be honest, if you can achieve the same result with free programs why bother? (i edited my last post, don't know if you noticed) it's a shame I can't just download this file you have and do it for you! frustrating isn't it!

You can check your private messages for guidance. If the software does the trick for you, consider purchasing it.

I got your private message and replied if the software works yes I will purchase it.

If I want to ripp the DVD and Copy it and Burn it to another DVD what would I need a DvD Burner? and specialised software my PC is a Dell Desktop 2003

that way I could send it to someone to have it ripped to order lol :)
Any of you heard of www.onspeed.com this is supppose to speed up DSL up to 2 MB my Dsl is supposed to be 2MB it manages 1.75 MB download speed,

would it be pointless buying this software expecting an increase in Upload speed to YouTube Servers or is it time to invest in Wireless Dsl?

    Thanks,

You'd need a dvd drive and burning software. Vista has it built in, can't remember if Xp has.
You seem to want to buy a lot of things just for this upload, it must be important!
I was on quite a low adsl when I first uploaded to youtube, and it seems to be trial and error- sometimes it uploads very quickly, other times it can take hours and not upload at all.
Can this video you have be downloaded from anywhere? if so I could convert and compress it for you?
