Jet2Holidays....Avoid

My family and I are trying to book a family holiday for 6 adults and 3 children to Gran Canaria for August 2019. We all went to book the same hotel and flights at the same time on their website and were all offered a price of £2365 All inclusive per family of 3.
My wife and I managed to book our "holiday" and paid the £180 deposit to secure whilst waiting for our payment to complete, my fathers booking and brothers booking failed, they went to book again and the price had gone up by £500 PER ROOM!
We phoned to speak to someone about this and got through to someone working at home! They obviously have no idea about consumer law as we all entered into the contract at the same time, accepting the same price!
They have tried to claim that the "last free child space was taken when you booked", This is not stated on their website anywhere and it's strange that on first trying to go back in and book, the offer for £2365 was still there, it isn't until you click to book that suddenly the free child space mysteriously disappears!
They flatly refused to accept that their policy means nothing compared to UK civil law and would not cancel my booking and refund the deposit there and then either.
I would advise everybody to avoid this company like the plague!

You clearly didn't all enter into a contract at the same time because the other two bookings failed.
The price then going up is probably down to dynamic pricing. Prices do fluctuate according to market forces. You will get your deposit back if the holiday is that far off.
Would it be worth trying a high street travel agent or via phone who can check availability before you book? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
This year will be my 3rd holiday with them, 2 great ones up to now.
I would advise everybody to book with them.0 -
The £2365 is an offer to treat. No different to offering a car for sale.
This price can be offered to hundreds of buyers at a time. The first to pay will get that price and a contract is formed and the holiday is taken off the market.
Before that money changes hands there is no contract, but as you are an expert in contract law you would know that already.
Once that holiday has sold the price can and probably will change.
BTW Jet2 are the first company I go to when looking for a package.0 -
I disagree with the OP.
Have been with them more than once with no problems and going again at the end of the year.
IMO they are probably more expensive than DIY even with the ''£100 off per person'' ''deal'' but I like the thought of just checking in at the airport, get transport to the hotel and transport back without the faff of having to make phone calls to confirm this and that.
I suppose to each their own.
To reply to the OP you can book Jet2 holidays at most travel agencies and if you have a big party this might be the best way to book future holidays.0 -
Best to book by 'phone direct with a sales person, then you get the whole package you seek at the price you want to pay.
We've flown with Jet2 on a couple of packages and have been very pleased with all aspects.
The awards they've won kind of speak for themselves.0 -

If I was in the OP's position, I'd have done this in one single transaction for all 9 passengers - either by phone or with a travel agent.
I too wouldn't take any notice of the OP's calls to avoid Jet2 based on what he has posted.0 -
Is this true? (not saying it isn't, just not sure).

Exactly, if booking together you book together, anything can happen between bookings and demand always pushes flight prices etc up,0 -
Agree with comments others have made.
Looks like the OP thought they could be clever and all log on from different computers and replicate the same transaction (albeit different party members) at the same time to get the same deal. OP must have pushed the confirm button slightly before others and taken the last child place or another limiting condition. The others initially then received error messages. When trying again the child place had been taken and/or flight seats in next bucket fare. Dynamic pricing is play. Definately better for this family group to have phoned to book or use a good travel agent. Learn for the future.
No consumer laws broken that I can see. Being snide about the sales homeworker!!!8217;s understanding of your interpretation of consumer and contract law also not helpful. The sales advisors explaination seems perfectly plausible. Your understanding and application of contract law is wrong in this circumstance.
I would call the Jet2 Holidays sales line, talk to them in a pleasant manner and work with them to find you the best price to book the remaining members of your family on the holiday. You will likely have to accept that they are paying a higher price and further free child places are not available. After all booked, take the total price of the telephone booking and your web booking and divide the price fairly and equally between the families travelling. You all then have the same price per family and have split the one free child space.0 -

They don't appear to have done anything wrong....imagine there were 3 seats left on the flight and your 3 groups of 3 are all checking availability...they will see the price for 3 people. Then one group books so the other 2 groups will now get a message that the flight is full so booking cannot be made...or would you expect them to allow all 9 passengers to book even though there is no availability?0 -
Just come back from our 7th package holiday with Jet2. Fantastic holiday and IMO they are a really good company to deal with. Rather than advise people to avoid, i would recommend them. Knocking them when they haven't done anything wrong isn't fair. This was the OPs error by not booking the holiday as one booking at the start.0
