So why not share the costs for your holiday....?

There are no Jet2 holidays from my preferred airport to my preferred part of Greece.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

OK - but I didn't assume your bargain holiday flights were actually with Jet2.
I know we're getting off-topic but it you who first introduced the topic of avoiding package holidays.

Of course, anyone can say they had a wonderful bargain holiday if they don't wish to share what it actually cost...

Booking package holidays isn't just about needed hand holding.

Absolutely agree and I think to say so sounds faintly patronising. Surely in the true spirit of mse:money: we should be open minded and not naïve enough to believe that DIY is always the best value option.

I bought a cheap half board holiday in Sorrento knowing that if the food was dreadful it was still cheaper than doing flights and B&B. As it happens the only gripe about the food was it was far too much!:D

Then there's the option of paying for a service from personal preference rather than because it's the cheapest way. I prefer to pay for a comfortable, air conditioned car for airport transfers. It could be cheaper to go by basic taxi or even coach.

My eldest got stuck at Birmingham airport during a recent emergency there. He was with TUI. They communicated badly and left everything to the last minute to sort out.

He was struck by the response by Jet2. They had staff on the ground very quickly and had sorted out hotels for their passengers before all the other companies. Their passengers were kept informed.

It's not their fault the OP was trying to pull a fast one by logging in on several computers and then got his fingers burnt.

Plus, the OP logged off shortly after their 1 post and has not been back on the forum since, to see what comments were made.

You clearly didn't all enter into a contract at the same time because the other two bookings failed.
The price then going up is probably down to dynamic pricing. Prices do fluctuate according to market forces. You will get your deposit back if the holiday is that far off.
Would it be worth trying a high street travel agent or via phone who can check availability before you book?

Why would the OP get his deposit back.

I doubt the Op will return as he probably realise by now that it was his mistake.

The biggest mistake was not booking as a group but I do wonde I feel the OP was trying to play the system and got caught

That said, some people will always need hand holding. People I know think we're utterly reckless to head to foreign parts with just a flight, a car and one nights hotel booked.

I've been travelling abroad for 60 years and only needed my hand held that first time as I was still in Primary !!!

Package holidays have their advantages, and in my experience can be cheaper than comparable DIY.

Such holidays are not without potential pitfalls as I observed in April 2010 when on a Thomas Cook package in Malta.

A large party from Rep. of Ireland in the same hotel had done their own thing and were left high and dry when the Icelandic volcanic eruption grounded all return flights.

TC kept us on in same room and board basis (as did Thomsons for their clients) for 4 nights and chartered an Air Malta aircraft to get us home when the restrictions were lifted - no charge. They also advised us on daily out of pocket expenses we could claim on travel insurance policy.

An 11 night holiday for the price of 7 - no complaints.

Meanwhile the Irish contigent were left to find a ferry across to Italy, a coach all the way up to the French channel ports, another ferry across to the UK with yet another coach to Irish Sea ferry port, then over to home territory at a cost of approx. Euro 1000 each.

This thread caught my eye because the same sort of thing happened to me with Ryanair.. lesson learnt!

We often holiday with another family and usually booked all flights in one transaction on other airlines sorting the money out between us.

This year we were better suited to go with Ryanair but couldn't do our usual group booking as we wanted 'family plus' add on and its wasn't available to a large group.

So we got together with laptops to book at the same time. The first family got a much lower price, the prices then jumped considerably instantly for the second family trying to book. In the interest of fairness we split the difference between families.

Obviously the first booking took the system over some trigger threshold.

I am not bitter about it, its just the way it works. What it does mean is we are unlikely to use Ryanair again for these trips as the hike made them no cheaper than other airlines in total but we were trapped after the first booking as we wanted to travel together.

As I said, just a lesson learnt, move on.

I can only comment on my experiences and i have always found Jet2 to be a great organization to deal with. I have always had great service with them both on flight only deals and on package holidays.

If it were not for organisations such as Jet2 and Ryanair, we would all be paying a hell of a lot more for holidays and flights.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
