i did think it was funny that u were talking about 2kg like it was loads when i buy mine in 20kg bags spuds keeps for ages like others have said, however you could make corn beef hash, or cheese and potatoe pie, or homemade wedges or roasties
There is only 2 of us and we don't have freezer on it's own, so for us it is 2 weeks supply:-)) (unless I do potato cakes, then it goes at once) and it seems like a lot to waste.
I have heard about freezing mash. I do mine with little butter and milk.
How do you serve it after? Do you just defrost it and heat up in a microwave?0 -

That sounds great. Unfortunately I don't have enough freezer space to freeze in single layer. But I suppose I could put them into a box and devide them with baking foil...
I'll try this!!0 -
I always freeze mash. Little butter and milk. Just defrost and heat. I use to top shepherds pie all the time. Put it in plastic bags and you can take out what you need.
I also agree with fishcakes, although I tend to defrost the mash first then make, chill and cook. Makes it more versatile.
Roasties - par boil potatoes and freeze. Then put into very hot oil while still frozen. Really crispy.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500 -
They are starting to sprout. Well, they have little tiny sprouts already really.
If you've got space anywhere for a pot you could try planting a couple and seeing if they grow - of course, in the long run it means you end up with even more potatoes, but they'll be free ones! :money:
(I tried this last year and ended up with a small but tasty crop of free potatoes.)

My space is already filled with some from earlier:D
Should be ready soon actually!!0 -
Freeze mash, make cottage pie, potato cakes are good, any spare mash and veg throw toegther with grated cheese and shape or just tub it, when I defrosted they didn't keep their shape despite the spoonful of flour I added. Anyway defrost and then fry, DELICIOUS!
Umm you could make wedges/chips to keep in the freezer. Potato bake, make some crisps as a snack one night just slice the potoato as thinly as possible and oven them for a bit.
Add some to soup and curry maybe say cauliflower and potato curry. If you have some fish add and make fish cakes. potato and . . . . pie whatever you fancy.
I can't think of anymore at the moment. If all else fails throw them in a patch of ground or a tub and they'll grow into potato plantsCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

your not suppose to add to much milk incase it seperates when you defrost them but if you give them a good milk they'll be fab, if it were me i'd make fishcakes and roasties thats a meal in itself with a tin of beans for when your backDEC GC £463.67/£450

potato scones
mash potatoes, mix with flour and butter, roll out and form into patties or use a cookie cutter and make shapes - these freeze well and are lovely with fried egg and beansBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Yes, I was thinking about the milk in the freezer... but then sometimes we freeze pint of milk for emergencies and never had problem so I thought it must be fine if others do it too.
My OH is not a fan of fishcakes, neither am I to be honest.
Thank you all for your advice, I made the homemade frozen chips last night, they are in the freezer in a box separated with few pieces of baking paper, we'll see what happens when it gets to baking the chips!!:D0
