Setanta Sports for £5 a month
Comments

I signed up yesterday so I could watch the boxing but other than that I will not watch it - I paid by visa and im not sure how it wors, i dont want any further months, has anybody else paid by card and what happened - im pretty sure they cant just debit my account each month as I havent given them permission for that.
Anybody any info please ? Also, I couldnt seem to find a telephone number that allowed me to speak to a person, it was all automated
I understand ALOT more than I care to let on

Its a rolling contract. They'll continue to debit each month until you want to cancel.0

Im really annoyed with Setanta, I bought it a week ago just so I could watch the Calzaghe fight. I saw the £5 a month no annual contract and thought it was a great deal, I would pay £5 watch the fight then cancel straight after. Checked my bank balance, was charge £15, I now know that is a connection charge, which was not mentioned anywhere on the website where you click through entering all your details. Surely you should be presented with some kind of bill stating what you will be charged, not a charge hidden away somewhere that you can never see unless you read through the massive T & Cs??
Secondly, when I phoned to cancel (after waiting for ages), they said I could not cancel until after 29th November, you have to have the 30 days viewing before you can cancel, and guess what, this means they then take the 2nd months payment from your account and only then can you cancel. So basically it is a 2 month minimum contract.
I told them I would just cancel my direct debit (which I had already done), they said they this would cause me problems as they would then get the debt collectors in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell, now what am I supposed to do, DD already canceled, so Ive got to just wait for that knock on the door??
What a crappy company. I dont care what fights they have in the future, I will NEVER sign again or recommend them.0 -
Notice period is 30 days from next billing period. in effect at end of first month can give 30 days notice.0

I would re-instate the DD, if not you are playing into their hands as they seem like just the sort of company who WILL blacken your credit rating. Much better to pay them the 2nd month, then cancel...and tell absolutely EVERYBODY what a s**t company they are.
I only signed up for the Calzaghe fight, which was worth the 3 months cheap sub on its own. Can't see me keeping on with it, though, as what I've seen so far has been very poor (Sorry, unless you are Scottish, who wants to watch Scottish footie??). I just don't see how this can be a viable business long-term but maybe they will prove me wrong..0 -
Setanta is really poor if Im really honest. I posted earlier in the forum that I phoned to cancel and never because I was offered £5 per month for three months. This was a good deal so I took them up on it but considering whats actually on their channels, £5 is not worth it.
I pay £36 a month for Sky Sports and their coverage is second to none. Their football coverage is fantastic, and I also enjoy their coverage of live greyhound racing and wwe.
I have to agree with you all out there about setanta, its a !!!!in joke. Took me twenty minutes to get through to cancellations, il not be doing that again in three months. Il be cancelling the direct debit and sending them a recorded letter.0 -
Saying "£5 is not worth it" just depends on what sports you're into though. If you like your football, and let's say golf, then £5 is MORE than worth it. If you're not into those sports, its perhaps not...other than for events such as one-off boxing nights and stuff like that.0

the thing is they can't even get the football right, biased and missed goals (the commentary is a joke) I was tempted to get this offer for £5 as I've been thru a cancellation (cancel DD and ignore letters & phone calls) just passed and put up with live streams (search google for "live footy doctor") had a stream last night and it didn't break (as seSCAMa where showing it) the streams are getting really good now and worth £0.00
the thing is, people don't know about the scam setanta are running (but there learning) try not to cancel everyway they can and extend your contract and the long waiting times on phone(that will be everyone trying to cancel) my advice is contact watchdog & email / tell everyone you know NOT to get them. I've put it in email/usenet signature

Its not banana, Its not sultana, Its seSCAMa
spread the word as the more people that know about this joke of a company the better (I didn't till I tried canceling and then searched google) the less that will fall for there cheap offers to draw you into the scam. if they keep this scam up, they'll be finished / giving it away for free (back in july it was £15 a month then £10 and now £5)0 -
I signed up a few months ago but trying to watch the match last night was a complete joke, the picture was awful, yet the rest of sky was fine and the signal was fine when I checked.
Think I'll be cancelling.0 -
I'm happy to give them the 3 months and see what happens. Yeah a few of the pundits don't appear to be particularly great but hey, they can't be as bad as Garth Crooks or Jamie Redknapp!

As for their customer service and billing issues that are upsetting some, I'll deal with that when the time comes. If I'm happy with the package, hopefully I won't have to speak to them about cancelling.0
