How does the saying go? Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse...
I can’t go into it at the moment, but yet more issues were uncovered by the builders yesterday and there’s an emergency surveyor coming out today. It’s a living nightmare and I can’t even make myself think about the cost consequences at the moment.
DS was sick yesterday too, so he was off school. I think it was down to his condition rather than a virus or something and so i’ve battled with the peadiatrician’s secretary this week to get an emergency appointment as he’s getting so much worse.
It’s payday today and, thanks to taking some unpaid leave off, I’m over £80 down. I’ve just caught up with YNAB and allocated everything, it’s going to be a tight month. I can’t even afford to put much into the house repair fund, but have come to a decision about that. I have decided to take £750 of my emergency savings and use it towards it, leaving £300 in a help to save account which will be built up by £50 each month. The current works are definitely an emergency (I think exterior walls are probably an essential) and I guess that’s what it was there for so I now have £1472.88 towards the £4320, leaving £2847.12 to find.
I’m off work today so I will try and gather some more bits for eBay. Hopefully I can add a bit more to the fund when the tax credits and child benefit is paid later in the month, but that will require me to be careful with my spending until then, so that is the plan.Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,706.16

Would you believe I had further bad news from the surveyor yesterday, it is definitely not my week.
The situation is pretty dire, I’m waiting for another specialist to come out this morning, before 11am apparently.
I can’t really think about it any more, I’m just nodding and going along with what has to be done.
It’s going to be a really rushed day as I have an emergency appointment for DS with the paediatrician and we have to leave at 11.30am at the latest to get there and find a parking space and that’s cutting it fine. DS is off school as it would not be worth taking him in for an hour or two then rushing to collect him whilst dealing with builders, surveyors and what not.
In better news, I forgot about the ex’s money he gives to me for DS every month when calculating the budget yesterday. Shows how in the shed my head is presently. So, I’ve been able to top the groceries and spend budget up and pay another £100 off the credit card which I used for purchases last week.
I also see that sky have charged me £13 more than normal this month and, looking at my account, it looks like my subrsctiption offer has run out, so I will be phoning them later. I can’t afford £61 a month. :eek:Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,706.16

I phoned sky and got the bill reduced to £50.50 a month which is a £12.50 pm saving on what it was going to be. Goodness, don’t their sales people go on though... even telling me how to answer the survey I was likely to receive about how well he’d done...
Specialist bloke turned up an hour late this morning, by which time both myself and the builder who’d come to speak to him had gone. Seemed to be a waste of time though as he was the only chance I had of an insurance backed piece of work being done - only a small part of the whole job, but anything would help, but he was really uncooperative and wouldn’t listen to the facts. Looks like I’ll be paying for that portion of the work too.
DS’s appointment has left me upset too. Suggestions that his condition may have a psychological root, since no medication has helped and it should have done. I’m not convinced due to his physical symptoms. I Can’t help feeling like i’ve Failed him and the stress and so much change in his life has contributed to it if it isn’t physical.
I’m feeling really upset tonight and like I can’t process any more now. I am switching off from things and feel like I can’t deal with it all anymore if that makes sense. I have no other words to describe it.Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,706.16

So sorry MeandO...is there another expert surveyor that can be called upon if this one wouldn't listen?

Thank you for your kind words both, it’s much appreciated.
Unfortunately not HSL2. I haven’t explained it very well, but the 2nd guy was a representative of a company whose work (before my time as owner) has potentially caused some of the issues. Unfortunately, and as predicted, he disagreed with the RICS surveyor, so they will not cover the work. I will have to pay the builders to do it, whom I have to say, I have a lot more faith in that I did originally.
Work has stopped for now, there is nothing they can do, but I should know a new cost by Friday and then hopefully work will commence again on Monday. I have everything crossed it will anyway, I really can’t cope with this much longer.
Ex has transferred £30 of the £75 he owes me for something, so i’ve transferred that to the pot. There’s now just over £1500 in it. The remaining £45 will probably have to go to the Christmas present pot when he gives it to me, I know he will.
OH had news today that his property repairs are going to cost in the region of £30k too. Needlesss to say, we are both pretty fed up presently.
To top it all, it was more or less confirmed that my Mum’s terminal condition has spread and is affecting her swallowing and breathing now.
I just want to curl up into a ball with DS and cuddle him. That's the only thing that makes me feel better - cuddles with my boy.
I feel so utterly defeated today.Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,706.16

I am so sorry about everything - to say you're having it tough at the moment is a complete understatement. One thing I do need to add though is that you have not failed your little boy. It is so clear on here how much you adore him and how much you do for him. You are an amazing mum to him and don't think otherwise for a second.Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3500
