Need advice on 'extras' we're being charged for fitting a bathroom

Daylight robbery if you ask me. And I work for a national retailer with their own profitable installation service. Looking at the spec of the job, I do not believe we would charge as much to begin with, and those extras are completely unreasonable given the cost of the original quote.
If you are removing tiles from a wall you have to expect some damage to the substrate beneath surely?
I am not so against raising kits as some others on here, as they make access to the waste easier in the event of a problem, and you can get some quite subtle ones these days. But if you don't want one and it is perfectly practical not to use one, why have It?0 -
We only do 'fixed price contracts' now days but the usual customer reply is "thats expensive"0

You're going to the wrong people then. I don't get that from people and we're not cheap, although we're clearly not expensive either, by these quotes.
OP, thank for for the PM. They seem to be a respectable outfit. It's not how I do business so it puts a taste in my mouth.
I do what I promise, I always find a way to make sure the client gets what they want, I make sure that I've covered all the potential problems as I know when they're going to occur. I wouldn't dream of charging labour up front, we do one price and we don't do 'extras', especially when they're perfectly forseeable. I don't think it's professional and I don't think people like it.
I also don't fit what others provide so I don't end up with the wrong shower tray. One can't expect a customer to get everything right.

That's fair - and I am happy to suck up the cost of either raising the tray or replacing the tray.
It's another frustration though seeing as I sent him the entire list of what I was going to buy. On that though, I actually can't find anything other than trays with central wastes that will clear both the joists, they really are awkwardly placed for a 900m quadrant tray... so to be fair even if he had supplied it he'd have either have charged us much more for the tray (central waste trays seem to be much more expensive?) or raised it anyways.
I'm going to have to speak to him today, I'm dreading it though. Absolutely dreading it, it's rare that we have tradesmen in that intimidate me but this guy makes me feel really uncomfortable. Oh well, I'll just have to explain my thoughts and take it from there I guess.0 -
I really empathise with you, I really just want everything to be okay and really baulk at the idea of confrontation.
Your guy probably knows that he's intimidating and that's why he feels that he can charge extras that others think should be or actually are included.
I pick my clients based on how genuine I feel they are. It's a really good idea to pick tradespeople on the same basis.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
