are we expecting any good black Friday deals? Currently on bt deal that has just finished the 12 months of cheap broadband and has jumped up to £48!! Sky have great deals on normal broadband but frustratingly not on fibre optic 38mb.0

I have just gone through the rigmarole of switching ISP again. I was with Sky in 2015, PlusNet in 2016 and now back to Sky in 2017.
Why can't one of these big providers offer a flat rate of say £17/mth and not bump you up to £24-30/month at the end of your contract?
Please MSE, start a campaign to have a fixed price option for line rental and broadband. I would go for this rather than having to mess about each time.
Have just spent my lunch hour getting the best price off PlusNet to stay with them and it just wasn't good enough. Can't wait for my internet to probably be off for 24 hours next during the switch and something else to probably go wrong like Sky not telling PlusNet and me getting double charged.
Rant over, thx Mark0 -
Just about to start the annual review / switch. Currently with Infinity. I don't need fibre but I got a good deal last January so went with it.
I have always compared Bt, sky and plus net and avoided talk talk, are they worth considering for broadband, I'm not bothered about any phone package., just bband and line rental.
Not a huge downloader but want unlimited bband to avoid further monthly charges.

Tried haggling with Plusnet yesterday, took them 40mins to answer the phone. And then by the time spoke to someone in retention or whatever, they said they couldn't budge. Dad was paying £13.49 for bb only!!! Anyhoo, gave up on PN and he phoned BT, who answered the phone straight away, were friendly and polite and gave Dad a deal that he was happy with, £23.99 phone and bb, plus all his bits and pieces like caller display etc.
I know it's probably not the best deal out there, but for a courteous amd quick service, Dad'll take that any day.

I recently did the opposite - moved the phone line from BT to join Plusnet existing broadband. Impossible to phone them, the way to deal is use online chat, wait for a rare window when Chat is available, then do something else while your place in the queue creeps forwards. Track and use any tickets they create, follow up with 2nd Chat session to chase slow moving tickets.0

My dad wouldn't have the patience for that

Yes, BT sales are pretty quick. The problem now comes when you need to report a fault. You will be speaking to an Indian call centre who will have a very poor grasp of English, the same technical knowledge as you, (maybe even less) and will not even report the correct fault to OR, will close the case when the wrong fault (which the engineer could not find - I wonder why) is fixed (well, not found) and you will have to start all over again ! And if you get a billing problem ............. Good luck :eek:0 -
Fairly !!!!ing useless. Technology remains static yet prices keep climbing.0

What's the best deal anybody has had recently on Virgin Fibre + Line rental, with no TV? Due for renewal and have been paying approx. 24 per month.0

Just renewed broadband with BT. After my initial phone call the best offer on the table was £15 bband + £18.99 line rental (=£33.99) per month for Infinity 2 unlimited 72Mb on a 24 month contract. Told them it was too expensive and I didn't need 72Mb.
Two phone calls later I eventually spoke to the Retentions / Cancellations department and they offered me Infinity 1 unlimited 54Mb on a 12 month contract for £5 bband + £18.99 line rental (=£23.99) per month with free BT Sport & Starter TV package and I got them to include a new Smart Router for free as well. Still considering if to go for the Line Rental Saver at £205.08 but that is non refundable if/when they increase prices during the contract so might just pay monthly instead.
Happy with that deal, BT were easy and pleasant to deal with and it saves me the hassle of changing to a new ISP, which most likely would have been Plusnet 38Mb at £25 pm (£21.11 with cashback)0
