Cracked windscreen - pothole claim?

Would love to see the letter.
I got a crack in my windscreen in February on the Isle of Lewis but wouldn’t even think of blaming Comhairle nan Eilean Siar or claiming off them either.
I got another on the way home too (luckily same windscreen) on the A82 through Glencoe. That would have been worth claiming for, but I wasn’t gonna stop and gather any evidence unless I wanted killed. I was just happy to get home in one piece that night :rotfl:0 -
I was mis-sold a greenhouse and came to these forums for advice. I was called a liar, told I had no chance, bullied and verbally abused.
But I got a full refund as well as all my costs - and still have the greenhouse to boot!
People on here say a lot of things with a lot of authority, but a lot of the advice given isn't worth a thing.
Congratulations on your payment. Whilst I don't personally agree that Highways England should be liable for a stone hitting your screen (they can't possibly guarantee to keep 250,000 miles of road clear of debris at all times), my opinion means nothing. They deemed you deserve the payout and you got it. Well done - well worth the effort.
Highlighted your bit in bold. None of that is given in this forum is advice. Advice is something that is paid for and given from someone with verified and verifiable expertise. This is a public forum where anyone can say anything with anonymity.
If you want actual advice you, of course, have to pay for it.
Try not to confuse the two.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Incorrect. "Advice" can be given by anyone, not just someone with "verified and verifiable expertise."0 -

Do you have a source for that, or is it just a definition you've conjured up?0 -
Incorrect. "Advice" can be given by anyone, not just someone with "verified and verifiable expertise."
Indeed, I suspect the previous post was suggesting people do not take the musings of internet strangers to be professional advice. I like forums though, you can almost guarantee some left field solutions. Good as a starting point but not to be taken as definitive......0 -
Just the one - A - will be more than enough for me, ta. Don't forget to blank off your name and address details.Aylesbury_Duck wrote: »I'm surprised you succeeded and I'll happy be proved wrong.I also find the OP's result very surprising.
This will be a real game-changer which will be a great help to many many people.
I look forward to seeing the letter from Highways England where they accept responsibility for the damage.Where's this letter then?0 -

Interesting! So they don't admit liability but are paying out anyway?
Are you prepared to share your correspondence with them that got you to this result? It would be a lesson for all of us.0 -
Accepting responsibility or not - I got a pay out
Are you doubting one doesn't exist?
Nope. Often people will say they have proof of something and we then have pages of bickering about what it will or won't say. Posting it up stops all that.
It's also useful for others to see if they are in similar circumstances.0
