They can't divert sms, only voice calls.
The number would have to be ported or swapped to another sim. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
My bad use of the word 'divert', perhaps.
The scammers are able to persuade the mobile company that they are you, tell the company the phone has been stolen, and yes, the old SIM is cancelled so now all calls AND texts etc will go to the new SIM in the scammers mobile.0 -
Too be honest, if I'm buying and i get a Verified by Visa or Secure Code popup I usually just give up and abandon the shop.
i can't be the only person who can't be bothered, it must cost merchants more than a few abandoned baskets.0 -

A more detailed explanation https://stripe.com/guides/strong-customer-authentication
Another explanation which discusses using SMS as one of the means of delivering the authentication code that is linked to the payment information https://blogs.sap.com/2018/02/22/understanding-strong-customer-authentication-for-eus-psd2/Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
e-mail just in from First Direct:We wanted to let you know about an industry wide security upgrade that’s being made to the Verified by Visa authentication process which helps protect you when you pay online with your debit or credit card.
When you do this, you can be asked to enter characters from your Verified by Visa password for some transactions, but soon this will be replaced by a one-time passcode (OTP) sent directly to your mobile phone via text message.

Glad I'm not the only person who does this!
My heart sinks when I see that VbV/SecureCode screen come up, and I avoid using merchants where I know it will happen. Although in recent times the popup seems to just flash up briefly then disappear without any input from me and the transaction goes through, so it's not as annoying as it used to be.0 -

I very really see it, and when I do it's when I transfer some of my salary to my savings account.
Not really a problem that they're asking if I really want to transfer a grand or two.0 -
On the one hand these processes might prevent fraud. On the other hand, if fraud does occur, then it will become easier for the CC to claim that the transaction was genuine and pin (!) the transaction on the cardholder.0

I've had to use it at least 10 times last week and this week when paying for things online from paying for a pizza to expensive concert tickets. Very annoying to say the least. Cards used have been Halifax Visa debit, FD Visa debit, Creation cc, Tesco cc.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
