On Monday the 28th April 08 i sent my phone off for repair with the three network. The next day when i received the phone back i received 7 81303 texts when i switched my mobile on at £1.50 per text for recieving them. Naturally confused and discussed i called three network who told me they are not three texts and have nothing to do with it.. I think its funny how all complaints are related to three network concerning this number and it is them who we pay our bills to!!...anyway they gave me a number to ring to complain which would have again cost me a further £1.50 per min to ring but i used saynoto0870.com and picked up a geographical number for these people (tania mobile) this number is 020 749 45600 if anyone needs it. I spoke to Davita who promised a full refund will be given and someone will ring me regarding it. That same evening i did receive a call from them advising me i will get a full refund within 5 days,, so lets watch this space as its only been a couple of days.
  • Just wanted to update and let u knw that on the 6th day i received a postal from these people with a full refund and a bit extra ;0)

You probaly wont be able to claim it back. But 3 should of provided you with a number so you can stop the txt msgs coming through. I had the same problem, rang orange as i got charged nearly £10 for 2 txts, believe me i was fuming. There is thread on here some where about this subject, i will try find it. Try calling 3 again and ask to speak to a team leader/supervisor or manager as thats what i had to do coz even though i rang the number orange gave me and followed the procedure, the same thing happened and i got charged again. I later found out it was through a dating site which i never joined and was down to a nasty person who put my details on a website, so be cautious.Good luck

Hi, I see you had Orange too, so should be the same procedure...I will do what you said...are they going to give me any number to stop these texts? and most importantly, did you get a refund????? Thank you!

    I received a premium message from 80160.
    I am on Three.

The funny thing is it has come on my phone number that has NEVER been used.

When Three where giving out free monthly line rental a few years ago - must be about 5 or 6 years ago. I took out a contract with them.
I only took it out for the free line rental incase I ever needed to use Three.
I never ever used the phone and destroyed the sim card.
Every month since then I have received a bill from Three for 0.00.
No one has the number , Its never been used , Not stored anywhere and the bills are shredded.
Last month I received a bill for £1.50 for an sms from 80160.

THE ONLY WAY THEY COULD HAVE GOT THIS NUMBER IS FROM THREE!

I asked them have they passed details to a third party and they have said no. They have refunded the £1.50.

If anyone needs proof that Three are involved in this I am happy to supply my 0.00 phone bills for 6 years and then suddenly this charge appears.

I've just had the same thing happen from ' 83373 '

    Some shoddy horoscope
'Astrojune: Forge ahead on any goals, big purchase, a house?
Money will be there for you if it's needed. Innov8, CV9 1JN. Stop to optout. Helpline 01728 726977'

Closely followed by a text from Orange telling me to top up cos my balance has dropped to 50p.

I'm not topping up to be fleeced! I never sign up to anything! What a cheek!
Maybe the networks ought to do something about this, an option to opt out of chargeable incoming texts on your account? I'll move to a network that does that!
Til then, I'm not topping up.

What are Ofcom doing about this?

    Hello,

Anyone that is on T-Mobile: If you ring customer services (150) and ask for a 'charge to account bar' to be added to your account (also works for pay as you go), then it will stop you receiving any chargable messages.

It will stop you being able to vote by text for things like X-factor and Big Brother etc, as these work on the same system but it does mean you won't run up a bill without meaning to!

  • @gapdunlop: a lot of the spam companies just try out randomly created mobile numbers in the hope that they get some that exist. Whilst spam was just annoying, it looks like the premium rate companies are trying the same now, which is just plain theft.

@Vanilla Bean: I had the exact same text message last night. I have never signed up to any text message services, which makes me think that Innov8 are trying random numbers to steal money off people. I rang their helpline but there were no staff to take my call, even though I rang within what they said were their office hours. The postcode in the text message is from Atherstone in north Warwickshire, but the phone number is from around Ipswitch in Suffolk.

I filed a complaint at http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/ (which is what ICSTIS has apparently become), and reluctantly texted STOP to the number it came from (which cost me 10 pence). I don't know how much I've been charged for the original text though. I guess that now I just have to sit and wait to see if I get any more.

this is mass marketed targeted theft that the mobile phone companies are sharing in and profiting from.

and yes why is Ofcom (and Government) turning a blind eye to this multi-million pound scandal ?

Couldn't agree more Wantmemoney....partners just had a shocking phonebill £160 with unsolicited texts. tried emailing them from info on Phonepayplus website and email address out of date. Vodafone not at all helpful and won't block incoming premium messages. Regulator is pretty ineffective and all customer service number are 0871 and no one answers. This is the biggest theft going and it seems you can't protect yourself from them. Maybe one for Martin to start a crusade on?

I have also had the dubious pleasure of being mugged for £1.50 by these thieves.

I have complained to both Orange and Phonepayplus but expect little result - I will also phone the spammers and ask for their input on Monday - their text was sent after 6pm on Friday and I got it about 8pm when I turned my phone on.

I sometimes have my phone off for long stretches of time and I dread to think that my credit might slowly have been eked away by these bandits, then when I needed to make a real emergency call like a lift or something I find I don't have enough credit!!

Taking £1.50 from my wallet without my permission and leaving a little crap message about astrology would be called stealing, why is taking my phone credit without permission any different?
