Problems with Barclays Loan - Complaint

I was celebrating paying my Barclay Loan off on this wonderful site only yesterday.

The final payment had gone out by direct debit. After 10 years and not one late payment, it was paid off.:T

Logging in to my online banking today, shows they have taken the money, but not cleared the final amount from the total left to pay. Fair enough, sometimes there is a 24 hr time lapse. However this has now been 48hrs and I have a notice on my Barclays account telling me I am in arrears, which I've never had before. How coud the payment be late? They had the direct debit permission to take the money out on time- which they did!

I went in to Barclays and the personal banker told me the loan is paid off and it should be ok. She contacted the loan department.

However, I am not pleased with the fact that they have this message on my account when I have paid and have made no effort to clear the balance. I don't want to leave it too long, as it could affect my credit rating.

Who do I get in touch with to resolve this issue when Barclays have taken the payment, but not cleared the balance and are threatening me with late fees? Which organisation could I make a complaint about Barclays lending to and get this issue resolved?

I left the direct debit as aways for them to take the final payment, I couldn't do any more. I am really fed up with this treatment.

thanks for any advice

You send your complaint to Barclays.

Thanks for reply. I've tried that twice. I thought I could do it online and in branch- which I did, but they haven't resolved the issue. I suppose I'll have to use snail mail in the 21st century!

Alternatively, I think I will get in touch with the Lending Standards Board.

FOS would be the place to go to after you have exhausted Barclay's complaints procedure.

But given it just appears to be an admin blip, I wouldn't expect too much to come of it. It sounds as if you have already alerted Barclays so they will already be looking into the issue.

I think 2 days may be a tad premature to raise a complaint about this IMHO.
Give them a few days to update the details and close it down and you can sit back and thoroughly enjoy your acheivement ;) Well done on clearing it.

Thanks for your kind words. I've never had any problem in the 10 years. That is why I'm a bit worried. They are usually so accurate. The trouble is computer glitches and errors can end up not in the customer's favour! I'm phoning the loan department myself tomorrow. The personal banker contacted them on my behalf in branch, but neither seemed to have a clue what was going on. I will also contact the online banking people and see if they can explain where the message is coming from their end.

Thanks. I'll try and be patient- change the habit of a lifetime!

If you have all the proves of payments you have nothing to worry about. A bank came like this to my brother once, telling him you missed one payment. But he showed them all the papers he had proving he paid everything. They said ok.

:T Spoke to someone on Barclays live chat last night and the problem has resolved itself this morning!!

Zero balance yipee. Glad this has resolved itself as Barclays online banking has always worked very well for me.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.:rotfl:
