The only brand of loo roll I can track down an answer to as being made here in the UK is Ecoleaf and it's sold by the Ethical Trading Company. I don't have any other information and trying to find info on Proctor and Gamble or Kimberley Clarke who are the two biggest manufacturers of that type of stuff don't give any relevant information that I can find. Hope that helps?0

I don't know about the overall position with newsprint but there is a big paper plant near Maidstone. It always used to be the centre for a big coppicing industry in Kent. With the promotion of recycled paper, coppicing in Kent has gone into decline. Who knows, it might have a come back
Consequences are often unforeseen. However, newsprint at any rate is not perishable so logistics should be solvable. I would also guess that a lot is imported from Scandinavia and comes across the North Sea rather than via Calais. And if it comes from Norway, which isn't in the EU, why would anything change?
As is probably obvious, I don't really know anything, just throwing out questions. Does your friend work in the industry? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Sittingbourne too and Rainham Mark both had big Bowaters Paper Mills when I grew up in Kent, sadly very long time gone now and the Kimberley Clarke one at Aylesford was where my kid brother started work also I suspect long gone or is it still going Maryb?0

News print, I was watching "Guy in Russia" seems there is a huge paper plant in Siberia, using a forest bigger than the whole of Europe, which makes a vast quantity of the world's paper.
If bog rolls & newsprint start there then apart from ports there is no reason I can see that EU membership will make any differenceEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I haven't been past the one at Aylesford for a couple of years MrsL but it was certainly there last time I went that wayIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I don't know - is loo roll regulated? I am not sure i like the idea of wiping my nether regions with paper that has all sorts of nasties in it, bleaches and so forth (yes, I know it has some now but, presumably (I don't actually know), there are some regulations? These will disappear if there is no deal...
Jack Monroe has written an interesting Twitter thread this morning about stock piling and its effect on foodbanks and food prices, i.e. if we are all told to stock up it is, yet again, the rich who are ok and the poor who will suffer due to not being able to in the first place, prices rising due to demand and less going to food banks. I will buy some stocks as I would anyway, but will donate to foodbanks, particularly nearer the time.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
But if it doesn't come from the EU in the first place presumably it's produced to our specifications and that wouldn't change. I'm curious now and might try and do some researchIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Standards & regs are in UK law, admittedly some are copied & pasted from EU, but they are in UK law, not EU

There was a programme on BBC2 this week (In the Factory) which was about the makers of C*shelle loo rolls, who get their paper pulp from Scandinavia.
Savings goal £30,000 1% = £300.

silver-oldie I just put the flour bag inside a freezer bag and tie the top with the wee wire tag thingy, then shove in the freezer. When I need a bag out, I take the polybag off and let the flour thaw and breathe for a day, then stick in the cupboard.0
