  • My lot would need a but of time to rehearse that! We found Stille Nacht was surprisingly popular live in Oxford pubs. The old familiar but in 4 part & the original German.
Mind, we'd also deliver "Happy Birthday!" in 4 part harmony on request & that was an amusingly reliable earner so long as it was bracketed with carols.

Since we moved, I've not found a group of itinerant musicians to harass the beer-swilling populace with. The Brass are not fans of lugging their kit around but prefer to set up & catch passers-by, who usually stop at a distance, listen & pass by without donating tuppence. This makes them hard to persuade that house to house is a likely money spinner, (not least as they are often Not fans of childrens' parties, which bemuses me as if you can pen the little dears at one end of the room, shove in a buffering layer of parents between & oomph gently by the exit, the parents will often rummage for the emergency petrol money). Ah well.

Carol singers who turn up with a line of we wish you a merry Christmas and then knock the door get short shrift with me. I expect a proper Christmas carol if they want some cash! I think the local youngsters know by now as we've had some with guitar accompaniment and one time two young ladies (about 15?) who had the loveliest of voices and harmonies. No spotty lads with half broken voices who don't know the words here please ;)
I must admit I'm very partial to a brass band and most street music well played and always put a few bob in the hat
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I wonder if we will still be preparing for Brexit after the results of todays general election? it's interesting times and I don't have a clue how the vote is going to go today so tomorrow may be 'full steam ahead' to Brexit and we'll keep on prepping in our individual ways or 'brakes on leading to full stop' and we'll have nice little stashes of useful items that will save us money in the months and years ahead of us if we stay as members of the EU. Hopefully at some point in the not too distant future life will be back to normality again one way or another.

After enduring another dark wet dismal day of rain and being thankful I didn,t have to venture out to vote (postal vote here), I'm trying to decide whether I sacrifice a night,s sleep to learn our fate or just sleep through it and find out tomorrow morning.

This has been one of the most miserable and bitter general elections i can recall, (and I,ve lived through a few). It seems to have negated any feelings of joy or enthusiasm I feel for pre-Christmas festivities and quite frankly I feel like saying "A plague on all your houses!".

I thought after the expenses scandal my view of politicians had reached a low point but this election campaign has excelled even that. Canvassers for all political parties in our area have been abused and shouted at.

Whatever's tomorrow's results bring I think politicians from all parties will need to ponder the old saying " Beware of what you wish for" because I suspect trust in our politicians and our political system has been well and truly eroded. Rant over !

I might watch a bit for the early exit polls, but I fear, or relish (still undecided on that point) a hung parliament, which will take potentially until after xmas to resolve (2010 took about a week if memory serves though). I don't think the 'kingmaker' is going to be as clear cut as it was in 2010 with the lib dems

    Edit just after 10pm:
Hmm okay, might just go to bed then, after finishing this brandy, this nice French brandy.
    Damn...

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
  • I'm mulling this over still. While I thrive on chaos (what tour manager doesn't). I'm happy there looks to be a functioning government in the offing, even though I might fundamentally disagree with it (which has been the case most of my adult life anyway). It now means we can concentrate on other stuff:

Last night I was out with scouts as they hurtled gown a dry ski slip on inner tubes, whooping & laughing.

This morning? I am trying not to look at the tealeaves & focus instead on my lists of supplies (loo roll! Baked beans! The (full) chest freezer ‘birthday present’!). Oh my young Scouts...
  • Who would have thought it? on with the prepping with a vengeance and perhaps we're NOT the idiot fringe after all...…...
  • After the result, I'm tempted to try boost my Brexit stockpile some more - does anyone remember if he promised a new leave date at any point? I know he promised to get it done but I dont recall by when...
