Looks like my stockpile gamble has backfired on me. I dont want to tuck into my stockpile until Brexit actually happens (or definitively doesnt happen - I cling to that hope) so I cant break into it during an extension... but I spent about 45% of this month grocery budget on it and I still need to eat. Now with a GE to look forward to I think it is important keep stocks high as a no deal could still happen.
We should all remember that many people fought hard and some died to give us the vote.
Please use it on December 12th.There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

The normal course of action here is to just dip into, but maintain your stock. It's not an all or nothing gamble, it's more of an investment - just replace what you use, like for like, or run down your stock just a little to suit your budget. Just think of it like a bank account
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
I have the normal prudent store cupboard, an old dresser with good tight doors, in the garage. I keep the usuals, same as all the prudent souls from long ago. Rice, pasta, tins of beans and tomatoes blah blah. Winter is coming and I have been snowed in several times, some unexpectedly like in 1977/8 but even as a young mum with no big freezer. I did fine on my stores. Stocking for the winter season is ingrained in many of us. We don`t bleat, we don`t melt or panic. We don`t buy nonsense rubbish puffed out treats in cardboard and plastic. We might have a tin of chocolates and biscuits and a few dates. We don`t panic, winter comes every year. Brexit is not unlike a winter, we don`t know what will happen but if we can make a meal from split peas, carrots, ham and onions and home made bread, is that not a meal fit for a king? Add toilet rolls, toothpaste, soap to the stores and let`s be grateful that we don`t have to live in a tent or on cardboard0

Well our stocks will definitely be dipped into this month. Car needed MOT, service and repair works. £700. Ouch.

Good morning guys
Boy is it chilly here today. Part of me is relieved that we aren’t coming out tomorrow with a no deal and part is cross with all our MPs for letting it get to this stage. We’re still staying with DS2 at the moment while our renovations are done which means I can’t prep until I’m back in which is quite frustrating. I really want to get a good prep cupboard sorted not just because of Brexit but also work is a bit shaky, the cutbacks are worrying and also OH is due an op on his shoulder which means he won’t be able to work for a couple of months. We won’t starve but I’d just like to be prepared.
But enough of my doom and gloom. It’s cold but looks glorious so I might venture out later well wrapped up and with chicken casserole going in the SC I’ll count my blessings.
Have a good day guys

Cars do horrible things to sound financial and stock planning.
Mind, husband found gas cooker purring unlit this morning (& is blaming me) so gremlins lurk.
Clutches nice heavy tin of spam to dot any spotted!0 -
A fully stocked cupboard is never wasted in our house because our stores are rolling stocks. By that I mean we always have full cupboards, we use what we store and just replace as and when. Brexit has been in my mind and pushed me into better stock organisation and storage solutions, finding supplies of dried fruit and veg and also freeze dried fruits. I'm thankful for what the experience has spurred me on to learn but essentially it's the time of year I have a very healthy store of ingredients anyway and that brings safe and secure feelings.
Having a store of food means you can eat. Just eat your stores, replacing what you can when you can. There's a very big difference between hoarding food and a healthy, rolling stock cupboard.
Euronorris we're joining you with the dipping. We have the last of the boiler fund to get so using food stocks, not replacing just yet and saving the food for udget for the boiler. It's not the first time we've done this either.0 -
Rolling stock here as well and will also be dipping into 'em, the joy's of repair's, you never know when they are going to pop up.£71.93/ £180.000

I have a feeling we'll all have eaten and used all our stores and replaced them several times over before we see the end of the Brexit process and I am heartily sick of the whole situation, disillusioned with MPs and fed up with the feeling that every day is Groundhog Day when it comes to UK politics or rather the lack thereof! we seem always to arrive back where we started with little to show for the 24 hours just spent. Common sense says have in a good store cupboard, I'm re-designating mine as a larder not a prep for Brexit, not playing Brexit any more, it will happen or won't but daily life goes on.....0
