I should have read this thread before I set off, but we went via the pharmacy, hospital clinic & tip (twice) and anyway. I can always loop past B&M en route to work. Plural nice chicken soup for a pound? Excellent!

My hunter gatherer [was] beaming. I have raided Iceland of frozen goods my family will eat (& wrung out Every special offer applicable) & the chest freezer is now loaded. [It was a birthday present & I saved up in anticipation. The next batch of strawberry jam raw materials are in too!]

Whether I can watch the news without a nervous tic is another issue, but my word I will not be doing that again any time soon.

I didn’t keep son adequately fed or leashed so there were a few other items at the till but he’s heating with intent to devour them now.

What a blinking mess! We are well stocked here, but what has it come to in a country like ours ,that folks like us really fear food shortages?

We have really been grateful here of the Brexit extension,as we really lumped up the stockpile.During the Summer,my wife was told she had cancer, and those stores have come in so useful as they supplement our drop in income.

Then we hear of possible cancer treatment shortages because of brexit, and that is a worry too. Dear oh dear, what on earth has this nation done to itself?
  • I don't know if the fear is real or if it's been seeded into our minds by media coverage and places like this where we can chat freely. The reality is that we just don't know what the future will be or what it will or won't contain but I really feel that if life can be approached with a mindset that is positive whatever we DO find might be dealt with better than if we're afraid and expecting the worst before it happens. Not making light of any aspects of this uncertainty that people are finding frightening as a prospect and any medical deficiencies will undoubtedly make people with health problems lives less comfortable and more uncertain of their own futures but we live a life of comparative ease in 2019 where we've come to expect all things to be available and affordable (within reason) 365 days of the year and I can remember life being very different in the middle of the last century, much poorer with much less choice and we just didn't have the expectation that all should have everything but were able to live good lives and be happy with far less in all areas than we've gotten used to today. Humans are infinitely adaptable and inventive and clever at making the best of whatever situation they do find themselves in, I believe in peoples strength and capacity to make good what we have now and in the future whatever happens over Brexit. Fear makes you less effective, makes you less able and makes you unreceptive to the changes that are bound to happen, better far to think I CAN than I CAN'T!

Sad to hear of your wife's diagnosis - hopefully you can all take it in your stride. Go with the flow is my advice. I was given six months to live in 2016, at the start of this mess and I'm still here. I often think that when brexit is done & dusted, then so will I (be)

Anyway, as far as meds go - my feeling is that it's the peripheral low importance stuff that's most at risk, paracetamol (from panic buying), also cetirizine is used quite often to avoid skin reactions during chemo. I'd consult with your oncologist if you're worried, and try and get 60 day rather than 30 day repeat prescriptions (I'm assuming you've been offered the exemption card ?) - Remember your oncologist & your GP are not necessarily on the same page though

    Good luck !

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Too late! The B&M near us had 6 for £4, which was beyond my planned spend. Son manfully did not sigh & steered me out passed some electronics which were fun but also grievously overpriced (the previous iteration is available at the pound shop after all) & got me pointed homewards!

Truly shopping with sympathetic help is above rubies!

D&DD - what is this cheese powder of which you speak?
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
