I just wonder whose job it's going to be to pressure wash this teacup when the storms are finally over?0

GQ I'd have to wait until the local East Lothian new tatties come in, usually first fortnight of July.
And Blue Doggy, Polish sweeties are brilliant!
Yes, MingVase I was delighted to find those Polish goodies, my local supermarkets don’t have Polish goods. I also noticed they had chocolate covered cherries in alcohol, which probably need to be sampled at a later date. Might be worth another trip to that other town.
GreyQueen We get new potatoes from Cyprus and Egypt early in the year, before the UK crop is in. That’s in this area anyway.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Gotta laugh at perfume! Hardly a necessity! Deodorant, I can understand having a few extra in, but perfume is an extra, non-essential. I've gone months without perfume before (as money was too tight to splash out on it at the time), and I can easily go again.
To be fair, I use it sparingly anyway. It's something I usually ask for Christmas and DH and MIL clubbed together to get a large bottle of my favourite last year. I'm still only about 2/3 of the way through that lol.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Apparently there are already drug supply issues for reasons they haven't figured. Oh now I am so reassured.
Room for another one in that hermitage?!
At Scouts we have had to institute a policy of "there will be a mask on the Guy but we will not tell you whom" & you can just come along & see...0 -

By chance, and nothing to do with Brexit, I have splashed out on 100ml of Burberry Classic, my favourite perfume. It has been difficult to buy lately and the last couple of times I bought it in Gibraltar for about £40 bottle. It was well over £70 to buy here. Now it seems it's discontinued and I managed to buy it for just under £30 online which I think is reasonable as it will last me a couple of years. In the meantime I will have to try lots of samples to choose a new daily spray - nothing too heady but rather more subtle.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Well I thought the NHS was supposed to be broken ?? Mum went to see about her shoulder in June, met consultant end of July and got a call yesterday she's scheduled for surgery 28th October yikes!!! How damn fine is that???
Kind of throws my plans up in the air a bit as I ain't even found a place near her yet let alone moved!! So looks as if I'm off to stay with Dad for a bit.He has Parkinsons so needs a bit of help and my Mum will fret if he's alone,we'll muddle along together!
Sooo IF it happens I likely will be sat on a ward somewhere or away from home...typical!!0 -
I had a signature perfume by mistake. OH and my boys knew I liked Kenzo Flowers and I got it for Christmas and birthdays for years until I requested something else.

Like telling your mother you liked her roast lamb, and were offered it at every meal you were involved in for ever...I was careful not to do this with my own children.

This is really interesting, perfume might seem like a minor thing on the face of it, but with all the conflict and uncertainty we're experiencing small reassuring things can mean a lot.
It's not first line prepping like basic food and medicine, but if having a year's worth of olives (jealous!) or your favourite perfume helps keep your spirits up, then that's not to be dismissed. I guess glam items like nylons and lippy in WWII are the classic examples, morale booster right. My granny worked on Savile Row making uniforms and talked a lot about this sort of thing, her eyes lighting up. I wish I'd asked more now.
Obviously if you're just starting then beans tea and loo roll are top of the list, but once the basics are covered variety and interest become increasingly important.
Let's face it, we're only posting and planning here because we're concerned about the way things are heading. And if something gives you a little escapism, a bit of a break from it all, then hey why not.
I'd also say what a nice and harmonious forum this is. No-one being trollish or aggressive, just lots of advice and support and all opinions valid, however you voted. Quite a relief these days:T
PS DfV -belated thank yous for the thermal advice, sadly aldi are out pf my size now but I nabbed a helmut lang-type merino for a couple of pounds extra, every cloud eh.
PPS Recently discovered amusement arcades are a good source of change if you're looking to build up a cash stash. I'm not at that stage yet but it's worth thinking about. Wondering if betting shops might be a possible source, does anyone know?0 -

Back in 2008 it was expected that the entire 'luxury goods' market would collapse, in fact to a certain extent the opposite happened. Small ticket items thrived, large ticket items struggled. In times of austerity, a little treat really helps.
Thinking on those non-essentials, and the warnings of 'less choice' and 'price rises', I think the sensible among us realise this means luxury goods, and if the supply chain really did go wrong, then of the 1000 artics parked up in Calais, the one full of tomatoes would be at the front of the queue and the one full of perfume would be right at the back.
On a light yet practical note, I think the luxury panic might kick in when sell by dates on things like deli style foods creep into the danger period - that's when there's a danger of waste - over buying perishable goods for an outcome that's been avoided
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0
