Andy, my Dad knew some ex-British Leyland employees. The company was appallingly run, it is true, but the strikes were not always what they seem.
If Da Management was confronted with too many unsold cars, they'd try something so ridiculous that they knew the Union's reaction would be Everybody Out! And, when the stock levels reduced, they'd recind whatever it was which had caused the upset and work would resume.
They also used to leave unpainted cars out in the rain to get rusty before spraying over the corrosion. I have owned several examples of their handiwork, back in the day, and spent many a 'happy' hour dealing with the consequences with filler and spray paint. Some of my old cars had rather more filler than metal in their wheel arches and sills..........
We had an Austin Cambridge which rusted through from the inside. I think it was about 5/6 years old when it was scrapped.
Thank goodness they don't build them like they used to........Make £2025 in 2025

Look up an old fashioned recipe for SAND CAKE which usually contains ground rice but semolina works just as well, it's good in shortbread too and a handful of semolina on the bottom crust of fruit pies soaks up excess juice and keeps the pastry crisper.0

Ginger planted.
Piece of Ginger with quite a few nodes, bought for about £0.45 cut in half and now in two 10” pots.
It was fun to do and I am hoping it will be fun to see what happens.
Mine seems to be up to something, although I forgot to cover it until about five days ago
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Blue Doggy that's really been helpful thanks so much for taking the time to advise much appreciated!!
I miss my extra half freezer I had on the FFreezer, we had to swop to a larger fridge when there became six of us.
I am lucky in that I still have two tall freezers but it's funny how you get used to having a certain amount of space!
I'm trying to balance them out between having just purely meat and ingredients in and all homemade freezer meals ready to go and I must confess it's not happening..
Need to work out a better system when the crops come in as this year I still mostly just threw stuff in the freezer..
I'm making a bit of headway with the berries but picked the rest of the apples today which need processing pretty swiftly as they are the more dodgy ones we left til last.
I'm going to 'attack' them again this evening and make a meal plan for next week using purely stores (I'm already doing that this week) if I can swap out some of the fruit for a bit of butter and some mozzarella I'll be a happy girl0 -
D&DD
Just to add, depending on the time of year you move, some pots or tubs of bulbs should travel well, and be good to dot around your new garden for (nearly) instant colour before you put spade to earth. They can be incorporated into the new garden without unpotting as you make it.
Good luck with the enterprise! Very exciting.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Primrose, the only cake I can think of off-hand is Bakewell Tart. I use the same weight of semolina as the recipe gives for ground almonds.
I'm sure there are more but unfortunately I'm on the point of moving and all my recipes are packed up.
But the general principle is to just swap semolina and almond essence for the ground almonds.I believe that friends are quiet angels

DryTheRain, here's the website link with the top & the laundry spec. Merino as you'd imagine TBH, wash gently & don't tumble!
D&DD, I'd say map and identify Everything you've got & start taking cuttings/saving seed etc. A few pots will transport but the rest? You'll have a load else to do so take just enough to keep you smiling (& cooking - my bit of the garden is mostly about fresh herbs & jam futures) plus all the cuttings & seeds you can carry then see how you go. If you have drifts of bulbs, mark them on the map & plan to plant afresh once you see how the land lies?
monnagran, all the very best of luck moving!0 -
The are going to be food shortages, but it wont be from brexit.

No sign of life at the moment.
The two pots are now inside as I am assuming they don’t need light until something green? Pushes through.

My prep stores have majored on products from the EU - olives and olive oil, tinned tomatoes, tomato pur!e, garlic pur!e, anchovies, etc. Plus tinned fruit and some veg (I hope UK supplies will hold up).
And some Polish chocolate covered marzipan sweets I found in a branch of Sainsb’y’s on a visit to another town
And, although not EU, enough Swiss chocolate to keep my spirits up for a few months.
The last thing to get is some lower alcohol German wine ...;) I don’t drink a lot but some is nice although now I’m older I find the higher alcohol wines give me awful headaches.
