Whereas both the big tubs & teeny packets of smash have been spotted in my local supermarkets but the choice of tinned spuds has rocketed!
Also, packet spud appears to be very popular with itinerant rodents. Easy to get into. My tubs have been shifted up a shelf & I have bought more tins, muttering somewhat & planning to invite godfather & his dog over...0 -
I don't think there's anything in it. Here, there is lots of choice on instant mash, but not a tin to be had anywhere.
, plenty of "old skool" Smedley ones here! Yes they do have a use-by date of after 1982

Also means if the elastic is not good enough it does not matter. I realise I could just empty the contents into the jar but I sort of prefer to keep them this way, same as I sometimes do if I end up with an odd sachet of say instant cup-soup or suchlike.
I suppose that half qualifies as a repurposing tip for the other topic, but I'll not repost it there.
Might not be a bad idea though if you have "small creatures" after your food goodies.0 -
On a prepping thing this is not a complaint but I've noticed locally the past two weeks or so, no one appears to have (bear in mind, there are no supermarkets within my normal range, its local shops only and a BM) no one has any instant powdered mash of any description! On the positive side there is an excess of fresh potato's about and a lot more of the tinned ones than you'd usually see. I don't think there is anything actually "in this" as such, just slightly odd ?
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -

I thought I'd check and both (choice of two within range**) have plenty of retail and catering size sachets but only one has the tubs in.
** I must get around to registering at one of those, I can meet their conditions actually., Costi OK (ish) but far too far away and there's something weird going on with my ancient card for them too.

Glad you are happy with it DFV it's hard to know if people will like the same thing! Thanks for sharing your story that must have been terrifying for you all XX0

Yes, as bonding family experiences go, I strongly recommend Monopoly instead.
We visited several welsh destinations that had not appeared on our must try list & more that were added as places to go back to - Swansea had a wonderful comic & magic the gathering card shop which was relatively close to their hospital so immediate memories could have been even more bored but st that time we had 4 working kindles.
We also got phone calls, forever associated with the relevant museum carpark, advising us on the management of a large burn & once back from holiday the lad was kept off school as the draft took and to avoid any possible infection. Made something of a mess of his run up to GCSEs!0 -
We worry about Brexit? This bloke takes it a step further.0

I browsed this quickly and his prediction of civic breakdown within 3 - 5 years due to climate change is certainly alarming, or should I say alarmist? What surprises me though is his search for a safer bolt hole on a coastal site when climate experts are forecasting a rise in ocean levels!0

Still trying to decide wether it's actually going to happen this time or not!!!
I have a list of bits *mainly cheese* I want to get if it goes ahead..
Don't think we really need anything else but there's bound to be something I missed but I want to start saving for our move now so would prefer not to top up the stores too much more or we'll need a whole van just for that.
Have decided to start on the garden prep now as in digging up anything we're wanting to take and moving it into pots. It's going to be a huge job and probably take us most of the winter to complete and then theres the greenhouse oh boy
Soo question I'd like to ask is has anyone else got a 'last minute list' for IF it happens???
Mine to start you off is
Bacon (smoked streaky and back)
Cheddar
Pepperoni
Eggs
Butter/lard/stork
Mozzarella cheese
Tassimo coffee
These are items I mainly can throw in the freezer but haven't room for at the moment but will clear space if I feel the need to and the coffee is something I use but don't tend to stockpile. I can do/live without any of the above (or have alternatives eg dried eggs) but they're nice to have0 -
As soon as it looks genuinely like it's going to happen I'm going to buy a new freezer then load it. Which will look distinctly out of place in the Dig sitting room, but meat, butter, frozen fruit & veg (some home grown, some bought in) - things I can feed the lads abundant solid hot meals from, with the help of the dried & canned goods.
As I reckon it'll be "hullo inflation" & money held as cash in hand will be worth a bit less than a bucket of stew makings in the freezer.
Not that I don't want to hold cash - it's a blinking versatile resource, but knowing I have twenty family meals in the heat-&-eat form & another 40 in the some-assembly-required form will do my peace of mind more good than looking at bits of paper.
Until then, I really need to work on the storage room so I can get at the fireplace. Why have a real fireplace & tested working chimney & the never use it?! (That's not quite prepping for Brexit, that's just getting my house in order.)0
