all of which is entirely sensible, I wasn't suggesting otherwise, I was simply saying part of our preps for now and any future it would be good not to buy into the blaming and scapegoating of people on either side of the debate.

I don't think I am going to rely on being able to aquire everything I need as I need it on the off chance that nothing is going to disrupt the supply chain if Brexit happens, I shall as I always have done and not just for Brexit keep in good stocks of things I use to make our meals on an everyday basis.
So I will carry on prepping and won't be lulled into a false sense of 'all will be well and there won't be shortages and there won't be problems' because I suspect strongly that there WILL be problems. Of course the rest of the world is free to do or not do anything it wants to and I hope it's right!

Oh I do agree, its not a case of carrying on its more a case of some people who may (like sheep unfortunately) go into some kind of crazy panic buying. By this I mean if they usually get 2 tins of xyz, they might think "might be an issue so I'll get 4" , no problem there. The -problem- is they think "omg! I might have to get another brand instead" and buy 30 of them.

Hey Andy, I'm a prepper. I prepare. It's what I do. Brexit is just another vein. Life has taught me that to prep is to have some leeway when something iffy happens and that could be as little as me needing to take to my bed for a handful of days.

I don't care about the sheep, the shortages, the queues, the panic, the lack of things I use because I'll be out of it... like I said, I'm a prepper. :)

:) Similar to above really. I just plan on carrying on. There will be 'things' just that if say you wanted some exotic fruit/veg or (as much as I hate to say it, and its not aimed at anyone honest!) some erm "ultra posh/expensive branded coffee/tea/other" you might have to manage with a regular normal (no one is saying bargain brands) one instead.

I saw something on TV a while ago, lady was panic buying a few things for it, and she had a draw full of the most expensive brand of loo roll you can get, and to make matters worse they were all individually wrapped ones, you could not buy it in a more expensive way. She seemed (to me at least) genuinely worried that she would not be able to get any afterwards. My thoughts immediately turned to "might have to have a normal brand mere mortals buy for a while perhaps" :) , not to sound mean by this at all honest.

I do not see a huge issue as other places will still want to sell to us, I do see price rises however as (although before my time) when decimal currency came in did the banks and wages round down and the shops round up ? , pretty sure similar happened when the half-penny/pence went out too things that were say 18.5p were suddenly 19p or 20p...

I would say then unless you really want exotic brand x or perhaps some 'non UK grown' fruits/veg there should not be that much issue, panic buying aside. I do realise that you can get say imported veg cheaper than locally grown, but market force should eventually even this out.

Slightly concerned by the fruit pickers who say they won't be able to get staff after all this ? Those that are here (legally) can remain as they were = no effect. Unless the fruit picking companies are doing something illegal like not paying them min wage then surely there is no issue ?

I've also officially run out of hiding places - hubby doesn't agree with this preparation for a no deal Brexit - so supplies are having to be secret squirrelled in.

I'd hide all the chocolate away in sneaky places and when he sees you having an occasional indulgence, just remind him of the parable of the wise virgins trimming their oil lamps in biblical times and that those who don't believe in preparing for emergencies shouldn't scrounge on those who do !

Actually running out of emergency toilet rolls is probably the easiest ways of concentrating minds and convincing people about the benefits of being prepared !:rotfl:

Actually so long as it's out of sight I don't crave chocolate etc....but put it in view and that's all I can think about lol

Not to make anything of it but she might have had peripheral neuropathy - that's numbness in the extremities ie fingers, so the correct toilet roll is quite an important factor (we might have done this a good few pages ago). My chemo finally gave me peripheral neuropathy back at the start of the year, even things like the precise length of your fingernails can make a big difference between being able to get by and just having useless sausage fingers. It's hard to explain without experiencing it. I've a 5' tower of 'my brand' - that's close to 100 rolls of the stuff, not posh, but i 'know' it.

And if that fails, there's still the pressure washer...

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
  • I shall wait and see what happens IF there is Brexit or even IF there is not. I cannot begin to predict what we may find in our futures or in the shops and as a prepper of long standing as are many of us who post on this thread I shall keep on in the way I always have and buy in as much as I deem fit to cover any of the possibilities that might be our future as my imagination produces for my delectation. I shall however make us a good life WHATEVER the future holds because I have the skills and the mindset and the material goods that will ensure that whatever the lack on the day I will still make good things from items in hand and in the prepping I will continue to do until I perceive it is no longer needed. I don't trust 'them' to provide for me whoever they are and as far as I know I am the only one to know what I need and why! It may be that nothing changes and life goes on without even the tiniest glitch and all the things we are accustomed to find will still be there in the same amounts as usual, however I find that rather 'pie in the sky' as an idea so I will keep buying my basics baked beans and tomatoes and basics loo rolls just in case I'm right and the optimists amongst us are proven wrong.

British Retail Consortium seem to think supplies of strawberries, lettuce and tomatoes might be affected. Don't know about anyone else but I'm pretty well done with strawberries and salads by the beginning of November. I use a few tomatoes here and there in winter in sandwiches ( or a cooked breakfast, yum, yum) but the world would keep turning if I couldn't get them for a week or two
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Well I may be wrong but I don't think the sky will be falling for want of lettuce, strawberries and tomatoes in November do you?

:) I have chard available 365 days a year. It's a dual substitute (lettuce and celery) and very good for you. Actual lettuce seems soooo lame to me, watery, flavourless and just bleugh.

Just shows, though, how talk of shortages needs to be held up to the light and one size fits all headlines don't help. Shortages of medicine one thing and arrangements must be ( and I believe, are being) made. Shortages of strawberries - more important things to worry about.
