Prepping for Brexit thread

Sorry for mentioning the 'C' word yesterday I KNOW it's horrendously early but IF there are possibly going to be glitches in transport, supply, even being able to get in to the shops if there should be demonstrations/unrest/crowds scrambling for what IS there then I'd rather be ahead of the game and start early with the things I can store until late December. Hopefully nothing untoward WILL happen and things will settle down as more information on how and when Brexit will happen and how it will change what we're used to as our normal. I like to think the adults of this country will stay adult in their behaviour and be the balance to the actions and emotions of those who feel aggrieved over the whole process, I won't however be holding my breath on that one and will feel safer if I don't have to go out should things become unpleasant.0

I noticed that tosspots had those various brands of tubbed chocolates as early as August, have previously sighted X**s cards, calendars and diaries in July. This acceleration of seasons and seasonal events sometimes wicks me off and sometimes enables bargainous shopping.
I noticed last week that both BnEmm and Home Bargainous were selling off those 4 packs of butane canisters, the ones which fit into those single burner stoves, for £3.99 and £2.99 respectively (HB was the cheaper). Good time of the year to restock on outdoor-specific supplied for holidays or general preptasticness.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

We went and looked at chest freezers this morning and have found a Logik 199 litre one for £169 which will perfectly fit the space we have available in the kitchen. The existing little undercounter one we have with 2 1/2 drawers will go downstairs into the store room and be used for flour, coffee and dry goods which will free up cupboard space to store other things. Much better state of affairs!0

I officially can not fit any more food into the chest freezer after yesterday; batch cooked some chillis, spag Bol & curries. I also made a huge cottage pie which will be at least 2 nights worth of meals.
I've also officially run out of hiding places - hubby doesn't agree with this preparation for a no deal Brexit - so supplies are having to be secret squirrelled in.
Needless to say if we got snowed in now I think we could last until March.0 -
Excellent heads up GQ and useful as my emergency stove is a camping stove. I shall be headed B&Mwards on Thurs.
As for the milk, yes, I have had episodes of the handle almost collapsing as I pour. It's something I am going to have to look into as I can navigate it but my preteen can't and I will cry over spilt milk. Actually I have a wide mouth 'snapple' glass bottle that can be used for decanting into. Excellent. I will need a bottle brush though.
No worries about C word at all. When you're a prepper it's only sensible0 -
I may have mentioned this before, if so, forgive me.
Don’t forget while prepping to put aside a little liquid cash as it might also be important to have a small stash in a safe place. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Cash is good, expecially if you have a quantity in coins/ small notes like fivers. Imagine that small traders would be happy to take cash, particularly if you are dealing with the business owner, rather than lose a sale. If you have change, you're unlikely to have to overpay.
I've heard from several folks who save their change in foriegn currency and take it back on following years that small shopkeepers are so delighted that they nearly rip their hands off in the rush to get the change and/ or offer a discount. Particularly in Turkey, or so I've heard.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Wondering if local farmers will take advantage of the lack of fresh veg and start selling in local Farmers Markets on stalls. I think it would make sense and be the only way they'd get their produce sold in the crossover muddly period. But for me it's better to stock up on frozen veg as I can't be bothered driving all over the Borders looking for markets.0

I did not look if it took the cartridge type 'screw on' gas or if it demanded a bit of pipework, I'd suspect the former as its meant to be for occasional camping not a permanent/semi-permanent setup.0 -
I did the government's preparation checker to see what it suggests I do to prepare. It helpfully told me that baed on my circumstances I need not do a thing. Helpful.0
