OP - Before you think lying on an application is a good idea, consider where you pay your income from your new job in September if you land up with a CIFAS marker for Application Fraud and no-one will give you a bank account.sourcrates wrote: »To "gain" this loan, you would have to lye on your application.

If you think it's still worth giving it a go then go for it, one hard search won't hurt but make sure your application is honest.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. Why not get a short term job for a few months and then you will have enough money for a holiday at the end of it?. My son graduated last year from his masters, worked the summer, had a holiday before starting work in October.0

I agree that obtaining a loan by deception would be an extremely bad idea. However, I do have experience (although not recent experience) of obtaining a bank loan when unemployed from a bank that knew me.0 -
Just to be clear I do not intend to lie when pursuing a loan, my aim was to see if I was eligible and if not whether there are any alternatives available.
I would love to get a job but I literally have a 6 week period free before employment.0 -
When I finished my degree I went inter-railing for just over month before starting my PhD, it was funded by my overdraft. My bank agreed to extend my overdraft based on my secured PhD place which came with a stipend.

You have no income and owe money. It makes no financial sense to take out a loan for a holiday. For essential job startup costs, absolutely, but taking out loans for holidays when you're already almost at your overdraft limit is the beginning of a long-term debt problem.0
