That's a shame about your weekend TS but very sensible given the conditions - and it's not exactly weather you'd enjoy being out and about in anyway if you did make it. Very decent of the De Vere to move the booking, I guess they've prob had lots of guests affected by the weather. Still, its something nice to look forward to next month when hopefully we'll have something other than rain and snow. xx

TS - Really impressed with De Vere Hotels letting you change your booking. So nice to hear a story like that for a change. Just so sorry that you didn't get away as planned, but it does make sense to postpone.
When I was growing up, we lived in the same road as my grandparents and my mum's two sisters. My nan had a daughter and family living either side of her. It was a very short road of terraced houses in the North West, but everyone had their door open for anyone to knock and walk in. They were such lovely days. It was a shock to me when I got married and moved to the Bristol area. It seemed that you couldn't go and knock on someone's door without an appointment. Although the people were friendly, it lacked the welcome I had grown up with. Likewise, I felt that no-one ever just called in for coffee or to say hello without "making an appointment" first. I found this really difficult, but eventually made friends who would just knock on the door to say hello.
I guess some people like spontaneity and other don't. Even now, I love people to just call if they are passing. They just have to take me as they find me lol

Well still here peeps and not in the South having my birthday treat away :(

guess the weather did win after all:eek::( but OH and I decided that it was just plain silly to think about travelling 300 miles or more if it wasn't absolutely necessary in these awful conditions. We have had at least 15-20 cm of snow here and probably couldn't have got off the drive anyway. And its so cold and I'm one of those peeps who is miserable when the cold gets in their bones so decided against going. But hotel were brilliant and have moved it to next month even though it was not normal procedure when booking an offer price.

So nice one De vere hotels :j:beer:

TS sad your plans haven't materalised but so glad the hotel have been so understanding:j and you can still have your break eventually. Was coming on to post unless you know the route you will be travelling best to stay put, as snow no where near as bad here as other places yet can't read any road signs as covered in snow whole way home  so no good if get lost:( you would think gravity would make it fall off. So think you have made a very wise decision.

    Afternoon all

It's cold here in the east with small white flurries on and off but no snow on the ground thank goodness

Have been putting together bird feeder and filling with ds1 and its all set up in the garden but bless he has been at the back windows checking every 2 minutes for birds lol

AH the holiday park thing sounds ok but I'm a bit of a clean freak and I have heard horror stories about the state of the beds etc so many times I would be scared stuff that we would all get ill (totally paranoid I know)

Hope you all take care and keep warm

I probably have one of them horror stories turned up one year to park and we had payed for Gold accm which mean't beds should have been made on arrival:eek: we didn't even have bedding let alone made, promised they would be sorted that evening, came back from clubhouse still no bedding we rang their night team apparently had shortage of bedding they only brought round unwashed bedding:eek::eek::eek:. We made a massive fuss the next morning and asked the manager to come and see us at our caravan, ended up with free meals in the restaurant for the 2 week stay which saved us a pretty packet. This was probably our worst problem but quite a major one I thought. You do have the option I suppose if have a big enough vehicle to take your own bedding and plenty of CIFF:rotfl:I would always recommend hiring the highest accomadation as they tend to have the newest of facilities and if not at high standard have reason to complain. We used to take our own sheets for DS2 as he always used to end up with a rash first night sleeping there so think it was what ever they used to clean them with.

So So similar SND. Ahh the good old days think we were trully blessed and sad that our kids generation have missed out on that relaxed friendly open community. They may have all the gizmos but think we were richer in another way.
