Thanks SND & PM feels like coming home to me when I visit Scotland all thou most years we would stay in Glasgow as nearer family and friends but recently been staying in Edinburgh mainly due to DS's GF based there. I am just lucky that my DH and boys love it just as much as me in fact when DS3 was little used to insist he was Scottish :rotfl: , as we used to visit several times a year.

We are hoping to visit an elderly old neighbour while there she gave us some wonderful memories. We used to travel down south alot when we lived there as mums DSister lived here and we knew everytime before we were due to travel without fail in came my neightbour with a big brown paper bag laden with fruit, crisps, drink, & chocolate bars etc as a little child we thought we were in heaven and remember I had 4 other brother & sisters all of us with the same bag. Then my children came along and she still did the same bags for them and they also remember her fondly. Couple of years ago when we went to stay in Glasgow for a few nights we planned to visit her but unfortunately I took quite ill and couldn't leave the room so I asked DH & DS to carry on with the visit as didn't want to let them down as knew they would have been looking forward to our visit and had brought flowers and little gifts for them. Do you know even now DS is 16 and I know as we leave that brown paper bag will appear as we leave and it is nothing to do with what is in it, it is the memories and the kindness of someone trully special.

Was talking to DH yesterday funnily enough about when I was little and how the community was. We lived across the way from my grandparents and spend most of our time when not in school over there. Their doors were always unlocked and people would just knock and walk in, the house would always be full of neighbours sometimes all at once :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. Then we moved down South and that same community just didn't seem to exist which was quite sad. Now I am sure it is probably changed even back in Scotland now and people lock their doors but it is quite sad as was a great way of keeping an eye on the elderly especially in these conditions and times.

Now I really need to get back to bed instead of reminising:D:rotfl:for by gone days.

    Good morning everyone

I can remember as a child people being able to leave the front door "on the latch" we called it, we could just open the doors and walk in. Neighbours were friendly and always helping each other. Its just so not like that now, which is a shame.

We have very thick snow, its drifted and is over 2 foot deep on my drive near the garage, much worse than last time. My son is going to have to dig us out later and not looking forward to it.

So everyone take care especially if you have to go out.

    Keep safe and warm guys

We were quiet poor as dad couldn't find work as unemployment was bad hence the move down south:(, birthday's weren't celebrated etc but again where the community came in neighbours who had helped the ones who hadn't with baking etc but the expression we are all in it together comes to mind and then I think the saying was true but not today. I am glad for my childhood maybe didn't think so at the time but as a adult looking back they were happy times. My grandparents must have given mum the train fare to visit her sister with us so felt like a holiday :A and I think it broke their hearts when we finally had to move away:( .

Aesop it is fantastic to know that there are other mums who can step in if necessary to help you out as we never know when that maybe necessary and it gives you peace of mind.:A:A:A

Oh hope weather doesn't cos problems with Easter activities used to really look forward to these when my boys were little, loved it when they make mistakes and see the reactions on the little kiddies face it is priceless. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

AH the holiday park thing sounds ok but I'm a bit of a clean freak and I have heard horror stories about the state of the beds etc so many times I would be scared stuff that we would all get ill (totally paranoid I know)

Well still here peeps and not in the South having my birthday treat away :(

guess the weather did win after all:eek::( but OH and I decided that it was just plain silly to think about travelling 300 miles or more if it wasn't absolutely necessary in these awful conditions. We have had at least 15-20 cm of snow here and probably couldn't have got off the drive anyway. And its so cold and I'm one of those peeps who is miserable when the cold gets in their bones so decided against going. But hotel were brilliant and have moved it to next month even though it was not normal procedure when booking an offer price.

So nice one De vere hotels :j:beer:
