    Loads of examples on YouTube

LOL. After Gaining (conning their way) remote access, the scammers run 'Dos tree dir' scan then type something that appears at the end. (virus found etc.)
Then some silliness about services stopped running and connections blah blah.
Then trying to sell security / support at inflated prices!!!

I've unplugged my home phone as was getting many fake BT etc. calls despite giving them choice responses! (they use number spoofing to appear genuine)
  • I am amazed that someone said they had a similar call last week
. We get several a day every day. I put them on my blocked call list. So far I have blocked 10 numbers and 161 calls have been diverted to my junk mail box.
I like some of the suggestions here. If they wake me up from my afternoon ZZZ, then I have to admit swearing at them. 98% of the calls to my landline as these calls. It is sending me potty. BT should take more responsibility are get rid of them. Is information about customers leaking from BT.

No, they just use an auto-dialler and wait for some gullible fool to answer the call. Next time you need to replace your handset(s) buy yourself a Call Guardian phone. They are supplied by BT (I do not work for BT) and since we got one, we don't have calls from spoofers or spammers. It puts YOU back in control.

    no it is not
    I've lived there for decades
I've had the same BT number here for the same decades
I've entered up my number on umpteen shopping websites.
...and I get maybe one scam call every perhaps 6 months if not longer.

I always ask them for the IP address these alerts they are receiving are coming from. That seems to shut them up!

They generally just ask you to open cmd to do an ipconfig, then tell you that they bet your ip address is in the '192.168' range. Shocker!

I you know these people are trying to scam you why not try to keep them on the phone as long as possible. The longer you can keep them on the phone wasting their time trying to access you system the less time they have to potentially gain access to someone less knowledgeable.
I understand this is a time drain, but you are doing a public service if you can.

    Regards,
    Steve

I'm sure you think you are doing a public service but the more likely reaction is that they retaliate to you doing this by adding your telephone number to the list of the "vulnerable and easily scammed" which are then passed round the scammers.
The result will be you that get deluged in constant scam calls from everywhere.

I would advise you to simply hang up the call and do not try and wind them up.

I managed to waste 20 minutes of one callers time. At least five minutes was spent waiting for my PC to boot. When he asked if it had booted yet, I just said "No, it is very slow, must be that virus you said I've got."
I "struggled" to install TeamViewer as he requested, asking on the way if the pretty girl that appeared on the webpage was one of his staff. Got bored after 20 minutes and just told him I was deliberately wasting his time to delay him calling someone else. Was expecting a barrage of abuse, but he just hung up.

Didn't get an increase in calls either. I doubt they even know the number they've called, it's all done by automated dialers generating numbers at random AFAIK.

Like nearly everyone else I had my share of scam calls despite being on TPS. I found the following address to quickly report scam calls to BT and it appears to be doing some good as I rarely get them now!
