You should be thankful that you only found Amazon in your back garden, not in your bank account.

Why would anyone not have a lock on their garden gate?

OP, seems the Amazon driver did you a huge favour by making you aware of just how ill-advised it is to leave your garden gate without a lock. Did you not think before now that a burglar could just walk in to your garden?

I haven't locked my garden gate for going on 16 years - and the garage wasn't locked for about 12 years since the lock broke. We finally got a new garage door this year which locks automatically on closing. Better late than never, eh?

Mind you, where I live I know of two burglaries in the village in the last 16 years and, if there had been more, my mum would certainly have known about it and told me :rotfl:

I have a back gate to the lock up garages which has no lock and a side entrance through a passage in the terrace house likewise. I had a wine delivery a couple of months ago and told the driver that on future deliveries, if no reply to leave it in the covered bit outside my back door.

I occasionally wander out into the garden of a morning in my long t-shirt nightie. Frankly any delivery driver might be embarrassed but I wouldn't, let alone have an attack of the vapours. If a child is worried that's because they're picking up on your fears (as in most things).

I suspect he actually wanted to pee in your garden and when he saw someone there he had to come up with a quick story to explain what he was doing.

I would buy a lock for your gate.

  • Reading the OP, the delivery wasn't even for her but asked for directions?!

I would be miffed too as my home and garden is not a local information centre!

I hope if you ever need directions from someone, they reply to you "Do I look like a walking information centre?".
