You don't even need a lock, a bolt on the inside of the gate will be just as effective at stopping anyone from getting in.

You can probably find one on Amazon.

But that would potentially mean Mr Amazon entering the OPs rear entrance again

And no doubt copying a key for his own use as he is such a terrifying man.

Why would anyone not have a lock on their garden gate?

OP, seems the Amazon driver did you a huge favour by making you aware of just how ill-advised it is to leave your garden gate without a lock. Did you not think before now that a burglar could just walk in to your garden?

I've not got a gate never mind a lock. Last week a Hermes delivery guy couldn't get an answer at the front door so popped round the back to see if I was in the Garden, which I was, so parcel was safely delivered with no drama.

Reminds me of a Courier who posted a package through a downstairs rear bathroom window and it landed in the bath whilst the resident was in it.

You should be scared of your child playing in the back garden with an unlocked gate. It'd only take two seconds for a more ill intentioned man to come in and snatch her. Equally, what if it had been someone less desirable than a delivery driver who came in and found you in a nightdress, in your garden which is secluded from the view of passersby.

You should really get a lock.

I agree with others get a lock on the gate. I have one like shown above so you can lock it both sides. I also lock front door if I am around the back
