Think I replied to you on another thread, it was the bad guys that disabled the website. Martin and his techie team were fighting to keep it up and got a specialist company to try and filter the attack. To be honest it all comes down to how determined the bad guys are, some of the bad guys that are capable of DDoS attacks using botnets are capable of taking down entire countries so I'm not sure what you'd be able to do against an attack as ferocious as that if it came."She is quite the oddball. I hope this message makes a bit of sense to the techies. If you need further info just post in this thread and I will try and reply as best I can- if I can come back in here later that is.
It may be that MSE has moved to a different IP address, and that your ISP is taking a day or two to update the details that translate the domain name to the numbers
Mind you, it's only a guess, and I've had that problem before elsewhere but not this time ...0 -
Do we know for sure who is responsible for the attack yet? (Offers to be in the group of people who want to pay them a visit! - to buy them a drink of course, what else? - as in tipped over their heads LOL)0

I keep getting:
Site Temporarily Unavailable. Sorry, the site you requested is currently unavailable. It will be available as soon as possible. Please try again later.
A few refreshes does usually shift it though ^_^0 -
im having no problems with speed today (cant remember the last time when the site was fast!) but pages are not formatting properly. i can see all the text, but get none of the background graphics. dont know if this is a widespread problem?

I think it'd be almost impossible for them to find out. Almost all DDoS attacks only lead at best to the PCs actually doing the attacking (e.g. your PC could be one of those if it isn't properly secured), not the people responsible."She is quite the oddball. OK here..Martin has just said on Vine Show. he didn't think PPI people were responsible but some thought had gone into the attack, namely the timing 4pm on a Friday.0

When the site was down there were a couple people who suggested a fund to help protect the site or help get it back up and running - did anything happen? I have saved a lot of money using the site and wouldn't mind putting a little back to help others - I'm sure loads of people feel the same. Just wondering if anything came of it.Weight loss - here we go again - watch this space!

Martin's already said that the best thing as far as he's concerned is getting people to know about the PPI campaign, they're alright as far as finances go in helping deal with the attack. As far as wanting to help directly in making sure it doesn't happen again, then I'd suggest you make sure you're not part of the problem and make sure your PC is secure and spread the word of PC security. These attacks can't happen without people being careless of their home PC security. And quite frankly, with so many infected PCs, some of the criminals controlling them if they wanted to could knock entire countries off the internet so I don't think donating any amount of money would make any difference at all in defending this one meagre site."She is quite the oddball.
