Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

this is what's called cyber-terrorism, whole countries have been subjected to these attacks recently, like Estonia after a row with Russia, the whole country ground to a halt. We need to get MI5 and MI6 involved.0

So glad the site is back - I never realised how much time I spend on here or how much it really has helped me until it wasn't there!
Well done to the tech wizards who have sorted the problem, and welcome back to everyone!OS weight loss challenge: 4.5/6 lbs0 -
Hurrah I've got through, but son't know how (from an old link I'd saved and was trying to look up).
Thing is, on my other computer when I try to get through to the forums I stuill get a DNS error message, is the site still under attack? (Tue 30th Nov 11.15am)
Well done to all those techies and Martin and his crew, we're all behind you.0 -

I doubt MI5 or MI6 are any better equipped than the specialist computer security firms already trying to determine the creators and controllers. Thousands of these attacks happen every week and have been so for a few years now. I think I saw a poll that said at least half of all companies in the UK have suffered virus infection and/or (D)DOS attacks. It's certainly something that needs to be looked at, but the biggest weapon in the criminals arsenal is people not securing their own PCs properly. Stop them using our PCs and they suddenly become far less capable. The exact same mechanism is used for sending spam but they're equally difficult to track and prosecute and certainly the level of spam hasn't ever improved but only got worse."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Your browser probably isn't downloading the page only looking at what's in the cache. Force a refresh, ctrl+F5."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Martin and team - well done on getting this up and running again!
:T :T :T
Hope you realise from all the posts how much your work is appreciated!
Can I also add a quick thanks to the people on paidtoshop who gave us a temporary refugee and those who helped spread the word on Facebook and elsewhere? I know it wasn't quite the same but they gave us a little place on their forum and made us a sticky so we were easy to find. And, in times of crisis, it's good to see who your friends are!

Superscraper I totally agree. First thing I did over the weekend as soon as I noted that it was an attack, was to run all my firewalls, antivirus and malware software with up to date databases just incase.
I did not want to add to problem. I suggest to everybody who does not have these very important pieces of software on their machines, is to go out there and get them on or get the updates that you haven't done for ages, done.
It may be a small thing to do but many links make a chain!!
Also I have had my ISP have 'core' hardware problems in the south-east, so I have had a double wammey over the last 18hrs. It's not and till you don't have a connection or can't get to that favourite or important site, that you realise how important the internet has come.
To the Mse 'TECHIE TEAM' WELL DONE!!!! :beer:The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.

It would be great if ISPs could look out for zombie computers on their network and redirect the users to a page telling them what's wrong and how to clean things up. If until they were clean their connections were limited to only the sites they need to access to sort things out they'd soon put things right.
It'd probably cost ISPs too much to implement though, so the responsibility will remain with the individuals and we've seen what that leads to....
Secure your computers! Sounds like an idea for the next campaign!0
