I know I'll be more cautious
People should be catious on here. I asked advice about a speeding ticket on the motoring board, by the time they were finished with me I was the devil incarnate.
At the end of the day if you post on a public forum you have to have your tin hat ready.
The good point is it sets a bench mark for what folk think is is reasonable or unreasonable. The OP should should see the positive aspects of this post. This is money saving after all and if sellers can save a few bob by shifting some of their income to P+P so be it. We all know roughly what unreasonable P+P looks like.
In this instance if I was selling the item I would probably not base it on actual cost but on the norm for that type of item.0 -
I charged postage and packaging of £2.50 on a laptop dvd writer I sold on ebay over the weekend. On taking it to the post office today, it cost me £2.08 to send it, not to mention the airbags I packed it with and the 'used' jiffy!!
On the way back I realised it'll be much better if I actually know the royal mail costs before I list the item on the ebay site in future. Like Sssssss said a bit ago, sometimes you get your fingers burnt, sometimes the costs are less than you thought they'd be and in the long term it balances out.0 -
IMO £2.99 is steep. I put a £1 if it is a large item and that is with new packing etc., but you did bid on it . I would have left poor on p+p stars and a neutral with comment about price paid for packing. However the OP is not that unusual as an ebayer. Also the amount of times I have refunded buyers fully before 2 weeks after an item is lost and they NEVER feedback nor say thank you. I think that a lot of people have been stung and are naturally suspicious.0

you knew what you were buying,so presumably you knew it wouldnt cost £2.99 to post and pack this item (unless wrapped in gold) so why on earth did you bid on the item.
you would have had no refund from me either,i wouldnt be bullied into giving you a refund when i had done nothing wrong....work permit granted!0 -
this is a bit tedious isn't it? the seller asked £2.99 for postage didn't she not £299.00?!
a red herring top for under £6 is cheaper than i've ever seen in Debenhams...0 -

didnt think i get nasty comments from mse!
i only asked if i was fair, yes i did go into a contract as i saw the price of item and postage a reasonable price and she didnt forfill the the full postage price.she actually told me the post office is foot steps away from her flat so didnt taske much to post it along with re using a bag which yes i agree with recycling i do it! and yes the fees probably came to about 50p or around that so 70p add 50p = £1.20 and i asked for £1 i think i was reasonable.
and not forgetting she said it was the way people made money out of ebay through postage i disagree! you get your money from selling the item.buyers pays for postage which should cover tyhe actual cost of item packaging and fees.
you were wrong, and I find it strange you still cannot see you were wrong.
You have the misguided idea that P&P is only the direct cost of posting, which it isnt.
The seller can and should include all the sundries in the cost. how do you know that the seller didnt have to buy sellotape? just as an example.
What about the sellers time? both in packaging and taking the item to the PO, if that took 30 minutes, then at the minimum wage they would have been entitled to around £2.60 + the postage cost + any sundries like sellotape.
There should be a way to ban people from Ebay who are happy with the P&P when bidding and then make a big issue about the seller taking an extra £2 to cover their costs once the auction is finalised and they have received their bargain and then get greedy and try and squeeze even more out of the seller by using a threat of negative feedback as a form of blackmail.====0 -
Please do the right thing and leave positive feedback. :j0

Burn her. She's the devil:)how do you know that the seller didnt have to buy sellotape?
Unless you're proposing that the buyer pays for an entire roll of sellotape, just how much does a bit of sellotape cost?
What about the cost of air??0
