Press start and type 'device man' and device manager should appear, select it.

now in there there are at least 1 place to look. 'Imaging device', and the second pace 'other devices' where those odd, unknown devices live

if you find the camera in any of these locations then read this https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-unknown-devices-showing-up-in-device-manager/

neither of the 2 are listed. Webcam is now listed as drivers are back but webcam still doesnt work.

Just a thought, is there a function key on the keyboard to turn the Webcam off and on?

Theres not function key that turns it on or off, it is showing as enabled in bios.

Thanks to every one for helping. Another annoying this is that the laptop more often than not, doesnt wake up from sleep. i have to open close lid several times for it to come on including holding down power button and ive tried various settings and power adjustments etc and tried everything that google suggests.

Im tempted to update bios but dont want to mess up and ruin things! As i can live with webcam not working.

So how about now following my suggestion in post #17? (Delete the device in Device Manager AND select to delete the drivers).

I have tried that several times, it doesn't work.

As for deleting the drivers, options are update drivers, disable device, uninstall device, scan for hardware changes, and properties( which shows device is working properly). I have tried them all.

Wonder if reverting to a prev windows update will help?

How about following this link from post #19? Although not unknown, it is not working. You are after the hardware id's which you want to paste into google.

there is no hardware id, under details it just shows USB Video Device. Also there is no unknown or imaging devices.

under driver tab in properties Roll back driver is greyed out. does that mean anything?

Tried it but it was blocked by windows defender smartscreen as its unsafe to download.

When i click on webcam im now getting 2 alternating messages, which are "we cant find your camera" to "something went wrong".

    I think ill give up.
