    Hi.

    Yes its P50-C-18L

How would I check for latest Bios being installed?

    Thanks

Have a look in your manual. Perhaps F10 on switching on. Perhaps ALT + F10 to run a Factory Restore in order to get your webcam back.

Should I install 3rd party drivers?
That would not be my first option. I would at first install nothing!

My first choice would be a live linux usb, as it leave the disk and software in tact.

While the linux disk is in the drive, I probably would be lazy and copy the whole c:\windows and the sub dirs to usb disk.

The majority of the time, the manufacturers drivers are better than the ones supplied by windows, could be newer too, if the drivers exist.

I'm guessing P50-C-18L. That's a high spec and not old machine.Toshiba should be getting involved.

Do you have the latest BIOS installed?

    system bios version is 1.60.

    should I update and how?

Edit- The Toshiba service station does not show any pending downloads for bios updates?

As aforementioned, contact Toshiba beforehand and speak to their Technical team before taking the jump; https://customerservicecontactnumber.uk/toshiba/

Then you can ask them about the BIOS update. It is for your machine, but it won't hurt to get some info about it and also if they know of the issue with feature upgrades and the webcam disappearing.

I have already checked this and with my model/serial it does not list any drivers or info for web cam. From the list of drivers, there's nothing relating to camera/webcam etc.

I know, I checked too. But I suggested other drivers that might include the webcam - chipset drivers especially can make or break a computer.

And if you know your BIOS is out of date, it would be a good idea to download and install it. There should be instructions with the download.

When my laptop updated to Win 10 from Win 7 the laptop screen stopped working. (The external screen connected via HDMI was fine). I needed a BIOS update to resolve the issue.

Have you tried finding the webcam in Device Manager and uninstalling it, selecting to also uninstall the drivers? Then run the Scan for Hardware Changes again and see if Windows detects it.

yes Ive tried that several times but it never worked and always said drivers are up to date.

Incidentally the drivers are now back , but webcam still doesn't work,. keep getting a message webcam not detected, make sure drivers are up to date and your antivirus is not blocking it etc.

Im abit scared to update BIOS incase I mess up and ruin the laptop!

Press start and type 'device man' and device manager should appear, select it.

now in there there are at least 1 place to look. 'Imaging device', and the second pace 'other devices' where those odd, unknown devices live

if you find the camera in any of these locations then read this https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-unknown-devices-showing-up-in-device-manager/

Just a thought, is there a function key on the keyboard to turn the Webcam off and on?

My switch for the camera on my Dell is in the bios. The first thing i did was to disable the camera. The second was to cover the lens.:)
