Hi I thhiught I would share my story in case it helps anyone.
Yesterday I popped into my local branch to deposit a small number of notes into my account via the atm. After some strange noises the machine said it could not count and would not be returning the notes too me. You can imagine how I felt. Fortunately there was a guy behind me wgpho witnessed this. In a panic k rushed to the counter to explain I was told to go and sit down and someone would sort it soon. Meantime I tried to block people using the machine however I was told not to do this by the staff. By now I was panicking as I suffer from anxiety and seizures. Then I realised I didn't have my card when eventually a member of staff half an hour later flame to see me.
Eventually the machine was opened and too my amazement there was a whole bunch of notes screwed up and ripped caused by the machine. My card was there too. They then wanted proof of my I'd . Fortunately I had some but I wasn't best pleased that I needed that. My cash was returned with my card by this time I felt dizzy and very unwell. The screwed up and ripped notes where deposited by people before me. I guess they will be I. For a shock if it doesn't make it too their accounts. Then the lady said the same thing happened yesterday to the machine. Well!
What good is that. So I complained online to then get a reply and blaming the machine . What lovely service I will be writing to the chief executive so please be wary of nationwide machines.

So there was a mechanical error but you got your funds back? All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0

Technology issues will always happen, however well prepared you are...0

Never had an issue with the machines.
And staff asking for for ID is perfectly feasible.
I assume you either got your notes back or you paid them in at the counter?
Is there a reason to be writing to an exec about this?0 -
What a complete over-reaction0

I was treated very poorly made to wait far longer than I should have done. If a bank has a problem with its machine the day before should it be allowed to use it again? Would you be happy if you had the same problem? I was also virtually asked to prove j had actually deposited the notes appalling . The pile of notes that had jammed up and had ipped inside the machine was shocking. People must surely have not had their deposits credited to their accounts. Plenty of criticism from you guys especially the one who said I have never had a problem with a machine before. Let's see your face if it happens to you . Not sure you be so happy especially if you had the same the same medical conditions I hwve0

I think that is probably a separate issue and unrelated to Nationwide's ATM problem.0 -
Explain how having to prove the card was in fact yours by providing id was not a sensible thing fir them to do?0

Why do you think that customers wouldn't have money credited to their accounts?
I don't use paying in machines, but there will be a paper/digital trail to make sure no one has lost any money. How do you think they usually credit money used in this way? I'm fairly sure that it goes into one "pot" and is somehow counted to make sure it matches the total paid in. The money will either have made it to the bank in the normal way or it will be in the machine. These things happen. It's a machine.0 -

What's the SLA for a wait time to discuss a broken ATM?

I would use the counter or a different machine. It's no bother really.

Rightfully so. You could say you deposited any amount to get away with it

Then that's something they can raise with them if it were indeed an issue

No criticism - just honesty and other opinions on the matter. You can't post on a public forum and not expect feedback from all spectrums0
