No the Auction had ended - they must have started cancellation procedures and sending me the no sale message literally as soon as it finished

I didn't think that they could do that. It's a huge loophole that Ebay should close.

    ... googles ....

OMG, it's even worse than I thought. I thought that auctions could only be cancelled by mutual consent of the buyer and seller. A seller can cancel up to 30 days after the auction provided that the buyer has not started an INR. https://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html

    Ludicrous.

EDIT: Wait a second, it says here that the buyer can still leave feedback.

    Things to keep in mind

If you cancel a transaction, the buyer may be disappointed or feel that you didn't honour your side of the bargain. Keep in mind that:
If you cancel a transaction, it may be considered a defect and count against your seller performance. Learn more about seller performance standards.
If you cancel a transaction, the buyer can still leave you negative or neutral Feedback about the transaction.
When you list an item, you enter into a legally binding contract to complete the transaction if the item is sold. If you cancel the transaction, there could be other negative ramifications. See the eBay User Agreement.
Once the cancellation is complete, you can't ask us to step in and help with the transaction, and you can't reopen the cancellation request.

I really wish I could leave Feedback - I did check a couple of times this morning from different angles , but no joy - will check again though - perhaps it was because I wasn!!!8217;t quick enough paying ?

Really surprised that Ebay do not even ask if you accept or agree with the teams for not selling
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)

The reason I mentioned IPhone , was that I had a suspicion that I couldnt do it on the laptop indoors , but on the IPhone it gives the option - weird ?!?

Also to add to the mix - I had checked if this fellow had any other listings and he hadn`t , but on checking on the original listing it states that the cheeky s@d had relisted the item exactly as was with no mention of any damage - in fact it states in good working order !

    - but crucially with a starting price of £100 !!?!
( I won it in auction this morning for £85 )

and it ended after 40 minutes with no buyer !?

We once listed a vintage radiogram having tested it, it worked perfectly. About 30 minutes before the auction end I dusted it and let the lid drop, one of the vacuum thingys broke and it didn't work anymore. I couldn't cancel the sale and I had a bidder, I asked Ebay what to do and they couldn't help. In the end I had to give it to the winner for nothing to stop him leaving negative feedback, and I had to pay fees.
    it does genuinely happen.

Couldn’t you have contacted the buyer as the auction was on and tell them what was happening ? - even if they didn’t reply in time it would have been seen you were being pro active about it ?

And you wouldn’t cancel the sale stating there was something wrong with your item , only to delist it straight away saying it was in perfect working order and with a higher starting price ,would you ??

I would very much like to know what you write. If you want to maintain privacy, you can heavily paraphrase your feedback.

Ive actually contacted him to ask for an explanation first before I do

I dont like leaving negative feedback - only done it a handfull of times in 17 odd years - and Ive cooled down a lot since this morning!

    will keep you updated ;)
