The problem has found a solution - Not the one I wanted, but it is the only course of action available.
Had to break up a fight last night that involved blood and a lot of tears. She promptly departed for a safe house, and he is currently sulking in a dark room. Notice to quit will be served shortly as I can not take the risk of having violence directed my way.Her courage will change the world.

how things can change in a couple of weeks...In need of a bit of extra money, I decided to get myself a lodger - Ended up getting a very quiet pair.. She is wanting to cook meals for both her partner and me, and has wanted to know when I get home from work so that food is ready.
Never factored this in to the rent, nor did I expect it which leaves me in a bit of a dilemma. Should I keep the cupboards well stocked with food and tell her to help herself, or should I adjust the rent. The problem has found a solution - Not the one I wanted, but it is the only course of action available.

Notice? I’d be expecting him gone instantly, totally reasonable in the circumstances. He can go to a hotel and pick up his stuff with a police escort for your safety.1 -
And change the locks! Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Well, notice is typed up and sitting by the kettle. It includes a warning that any sign of hostility will result in forcible removal in the presence of the police as would any damage to house & contents.
I should have called the police on the night and changed the locks while he was in their custody... Unfortunately, Screwfix isn't open 24/7.Her courage will change the world.

I guess one poor person on their own looking to lodge is not unusual, but two people that cannot afford to rent their own place is unusual and there may be deeper reasons behind it.1 -

That’s a ridiculous excuse, you could have just left keys in all the locks that night and changed the lock in the morning!,
Well, what’s done is done, hopefully he’ll go without a fuss, I presume the notice is for him to leave immediately?1 -
Amazing, I posted my response above before reading this. And people think I am the mad one....what else did you think would happen bringing strangers into your home? I hope you didn't eat any food they cooked you. Seriously, if you need extra cash, a lodger is more riskier than selling your derriere to sailors. I can't believe people fall for this terrible advice.
Presumably what the OP thought would happen is what usually does happen - a perfectly amicable arrangement that brings in some useful extra cash until one or other of the parties decides it's time for a change. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I know you're angry but it isn't a good idea to threaten 'forcible removal' as that entails physically handling someone. The lodger may then accuse you of assault (and has the threat in writing).
Better to request a Police presence; ring 101 with the time you are going to 'ask him to leave' but say you are concerned there may be a breach of the peace, and quote the previous incident.
Hopefully, he will go peacefully. If not, and he makes threats towards you or the officer(s), then he will be removed by them.0
