I await the next exciting instalment ...

Well.... The afore mentioned young lady moved in and has proved to be a joy in comparison to the last pair. Chatty, friendly, and good company - Just what I need when I get in after a long day at work. Meals at the weekend, I've been cooking, and she has been doing the washing up in return along with some of the cleaning around the house.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

How have I missed this post before now? Just went through it all.
As a Resident Landlord of several years, I was flabbergasted by this saga. Alarm bells rang from the first off. She wants to do what? Cook for you?!
Admired the OP compassion towards his couple lodgers, yelled silently no no no never ever take a couple if you are a single Resident Landlord.
Held my breath with each "fight"
    Disagreed with some posters.
Wanted to pick up the phone and call the OP just to give my empathy and support.
Desperately sorry that your first lodgers were such a nightmare
Relieved that the new lodger is working out.

Please may I suggest a pretty good go-to site for help on lodgers: http://lodgersite.com

The new lodger has settled in just fine, and she seems quite happy to do much of the cleaning around the house. First months rent didn't get paid until the end of December, but that is to be expected as she is on benefits (no deposit either). In consideration of her financial position, rent has been pitched above LHA rates and the difference is being used to build up the deposit. In time, the overpayment will eventually put her in credit with the rent.

The new lodger has had her girlfriend stay over for the odd few nights. No dramas and they have been cleaning up after cooking a meal. Just about the right level of sociability. The gf has found herself a job locally (currently living about 30 miles away) and wants to move in.

Life is about to get interesting again :cheesy:

Oh my goodness... I remember being the source of entertainment when I lived in a shared house and would update my work friends on a daily basis. I don't miss those days! Drama every day.

You sound like an absolute pushover and need to be careful because they'll take advantage. You said the new one is on LHA and hadn't even paid the rent at the start and is now moving the partner in.... it's gonna get messy.

In all fairness to her, as soon as her benefits hit her bank account, she has transfered the rent across to me before spending a penny on herself - We have had a long talk about finances and what would happen if she tried to take advantage of my good nature. The partner brings a bit more money to the table which will help in the finances department. And having had the gf staying over a couple of times, I've had opportunity to "check her out".

  • You keep defending her/them and now are considering having her partner move in even though the forum has advised against it. These are the markings of a nice person, but not assertive enough; a push-over. I hope it works out for you and this does not turn into a 'I told you so!' kind of situation.
