Do those codes normally mean the whole column needs replacing then?0

It might do if all those components are part of the steering column assembly... which they could be.
However, it would be very unusual for all three components to fail at the same time. Have you checked to see if any electrical connectors have come loose?0 -
I've not checked, a guy I know is gonna have a look on Tuesday, earliest he can do it. The guy at the Kia garage said that the steering column and steering rack failing within a few months is totally unreleated. I am wondering how now if the steering rack actually needed replacing.0

Sometimes the failure of one component can have a knock on effect on others.
Secondhand columns don't look too expensive. No idea how tricky they are to fit though.

Would I have any recourse against the dealer regarding the first issue and is there any way I could find out if they fixed the right fault the first time round0

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I was thinking the same, they PRESSUMED the rack was gone and then now know it is the steering column, may have changed the first part for nothing, did they give you the old rack back?0
-
No they did not give me the old rack back, I have asked for a copy of the diagnostic and fault codes from when they replaced the rack. I just think something is not right with this, when I questioned the dealers today, I was told that they are two unreleated faults and one has no bearing on the other which doesn't seem true to me.
What recourse do I have, if any. I did pay via credit card if that helps?0 -
It would be very difficult to prove the Kia dealer are at fault, so good luck if you want to pursue that. It would seem that the steering system is simply not good enough for whatever reason.
Could be down to the likes of the standard of roads or how the vehicle has been driven.
I would not say that the column should have been replaced initially, it is improbable in my opinion.
Although hindsight, it would have been best to go to a trusted independent garage instead of the dealer in the first place. Your costs would have been much more affordable.0 -
It only gets drove on normal roads, bit of motorway driving occasionally. Only do about 15 miles per week in it usually. Just feels that I have been shafted a bit especially with both the column and rack going in such a short space of time.0
