Steering Rack Failure

Old style racks had a locknut and adjuster to take up rack and pinion wear.0

Many now are electric rather than hydraulic and some have the motor on the steering column others have it on the rack itself if the steering is still acting normal and hasnt lost the Power steering etc i would say could just be the steering angle sensor.0
-
Yes it's more likely on the column than the rack in my experience. But never ever seen a rack and pinion replaced since the pinion is in mesh with the rack straight from the manufacturer and all one unit. Then all you need to do is slide it in the column and pinch bolt it0

Update - I had the steering rack replaced by the Kia dealer in may and tonight the EPS light has come on twice and I lost power steering. I assume the parts and labour are covered under Kia warrenty? Unsure of what it could be this time and really annoyed with this car now0

If you've got the bill & receipt (you do, don't you??) then get on to the dealer about it, the parts at least should still be under warranty.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Had a call back today, have been told it's nothing to do with the steering rack this time and the steering column has failed and needs replacing at a cost of £1800.
In shock and don't know what to do as the car is only worth that when it's running? My friend at the local garage has told me to pick it up and get the fault codes and take it to him to look at.0 -

That sounds like a good starting point0 -
Would never buy a Kia again, two major faults relating to steering within a 5 month period is crappy and I wouldn't have one if they paid me. Wish I could just write it off 😐0

So picked the car up an hour ago, was charged 218 for diagnostic and got the fault codes for what they say is wrong with it.
I have been to see a Indi garage who I know and he can fit me in on Tuesday.
It makes me think now if when they replaced the steering rack in may, if that was even the issue and needed replacing, don't think there is anything I can do about that though?
Fault codes are c1259, c1290 and c2400 if anyone knows what they mean0 -
C1259 - Steering Angle Sensor – Electrical Malfunction
C1290 - Torque sensor failure
C2400 - Motor failure0
