Well Done, Suggs, How could I not mention your weight loss in my last post ,when I am soooooooooooooooooo envious of your total weight loss! I cant really imagine this thread without you! I am sure we will all get there KPC ( with the help of the lovely people here), thanks Bails, I have read your last post twice and what you said abour 'good' and 'bad' foods and rewards other than food is so true, but old habits are so hard to break -like I am finding out. I have always been a compulsive eater but with time it has got worse. But I am worried that I might unintentionally be pushing my kids down the food reward thing.DD got diabetes at the age of three after a long viral infection( she was never an overweight child), so I am always trying to give my kids a healthy diet with very little processed sweet stuff. But everyweekend or so they do have sweet treats and my daughter has little bit more insulin to cover for that. I love baking so I will bake brownies or caramel shortbread and we all have it as a treat! Perhaps I should think of rewards other than sweets for my kids as well.
Well impressed by your exercise routine Misyg, and well done Jenpoptab for getting so slose to your target.0 -
tiby, that is a great point. I think that is one of my downfalls, i do use food as a reward. time to start buying pretty necklaces from the supermarket again instead i think.
bails, i do get a kick out of healthy eating and cooking but i find it just isn't the same. I am a real foodie, my OH likes to say that nigella learned her stuff from me. Both my day job and my night job depend on my being that foodie and I don't want to lose my passion for food! I find that healthy cooking often just doesn't give me the same enjoyment - I love the textures and flavours of all the bad things, and as we've often said in the past, healthy baking is an absolute waste of time. I try to adapt recipes and do get enjoy it immensely when it works out, but find that it leads to disaster as often as it does success - actually, it usually works for savoury dishes but is a disaster with baking type things. I do think SW is the plan for me but i'm sometimes not convinced about substituting natural ingredients like cream, butter and sugar for artificial versions that don't give the same taste and effect and can't possibly be good for you.
Gosh, I'm rambling again. Perhaps I need to just stop baking for a bit, get myself properly on track? I think the core problem is that a fair amount of my self esteem is bound up in my persona as a foodie/domestic goddess. And maybe I'm a bit scared of finding that without that I'm not anything?0 -
I completely agree with you KPC. I find the thought of using artificial alternative for some things abhorrent....I like my food and enjoy cooking and I really resent having to deny myself proper ingredients when I am making good home cooked food...
Maybe the key to your success would be portion control? or if you are able fitting in some exercise so you don't feel so bad about the munching of your delicious creations?...you could do some kitchen lunges...a bit of vigorous cleaning or just bop around singing into your wooden spoon for a bit of extra movement whilst you ware waiting for things to bubble and boil...
I've accepted that my weight loss will be impossibly slow as I refuse to stick to any plan but I also believe that when I finally get there it will be far more sustainable for me as I won't have to suddenly re-adapt to maintain.
I've also found that 3 sessions at the gym instead of 2 is helping things shift downwards again...so a bit more hip-wiggling at the cooker may well be the ticket...
If you're a bit of a feeder then why not take enjoyment in baking things to give away? ask if your local corner shop would sell a few of your cakes as and when you bake them (only if you have the time though... some peeps on here are too swamped to think straight let alone add more stuff)...or you could bake for friends...keep a few cupcakes and take the rest to the office...or pack a few up for festive presents...
all the enjoyment and the glory without being able to nibble at them.
failing any of that perhaps adopt the flexible syns idea (think it was cheery daff)....but whatever happens...pick a cake, enjoy the cake....then think twice as hard about the next one...do a few starjumps...and try to resist...
if you've toppled off the wagon with your delicious cooking then take the next meal as a new start...instead of day one think in terms of meal one...sure it will even out most things in the end....
sorry for the ramble folks...should probably go and finish my experiment....0 -
I agree too about all the artificial things and only use natural stuff. As you know I am not a foodie but my mum is (it was her job too) and her identity is intrinsically linked to that too, so I have some understanding. Rejecting my mum's cooking is the equivalent of saying you don't love her in her mind. But while being a foodie and your passion for it are a massive part of your life, I am sure it isn't who you are. I can relate in that 'I am a teacher', that was my role, the thing I was good at and a lot of my self-esteem came from that. By having that taken away from me I had to relearn who I was, and discover my real identity. Noone is saying cut that part of you out of your life, but perhaps don't let it define you, if you see what I mean? Food is meant to be about enjoyment (as well as meeting a basic need )and I think it would be very sad if you lost your love of it. Serendisglair has some great suggestions for still allowing that to be a big part of your life without necessarily having to eat it yourself.
You definitely are something KPC, and a very lovely one at that! :grouphug:The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Serendisglair thanks for the suggestion about team sports. I used to play ice hockey many years ago when I was even younger than Cheery Daff, hehe! These days, I can't do team sports because of my unpredictable working patterns. If it's out of school hours it also has to be something I can do with my young son (who loves all the things we already do and is good at everything!)
Bails I do have rest days!Every fourth day is a potential rest day and I've had two this month so that's equivalent to one a week. Thank you though, I've been doing this routine or similar for a long time, so I'm going to think about how I can un-routine myself, which is really why I posted to see what others are doing.
I've clearly got a lot to think about, perhaps pushing myself harder and harder is the wrong approach now although it has got me this far!
I'm sorry for not joining in on the food talk much, I'm a very plain eater with not much to contribute on that side of things. The only food I miss occasionally is crisps, but it's not a big deal :rotfl:
This is such a great group, I know I haven't been here long but I am really enjoying all the interesting posts :T0 -
Pleased to hear it missyg! I can't do much at the mo so don't have a plan I can compare but how about: shooting hoops with your boy at the local park; setting up an orienteering type challenge for him with clues etc then running round with him when he does it (twice the exercise:D); kite flying (this may seem low level but on a windy day it's a real upper body workout)...
Sorry gotta go but will think of more later xThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

still want to feel like Im part of the group. If you rather I go, you only have to say. Sorry, having a real bad day today. I should be happy, cant even think a positive thought
Sorry you are having a bad day suggs. You bring so much to the group and not just because its nice to have a man around, but because it's good to have you around as an individual. You're very supportive and understanding and very very honest and fun, and it's those qualities that make our forum such a fab place to be.
Lots of good stuff going round between everyone today. Had a good laugh at the idea of posting my exercise routine:

there didn't take long did it
My back is still a problem but did have more sleep last night than I've been getting for a fortnight. Waiting to see Dr tomorrow and hoping for some answers.
Not heard fom Petrichor for a few days? Perhaps the new trousers have a mind of their own and have forced her against her will to do unspeakable things...I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Hi all, thanks for all the kind words. I think what the problem is when I lose alot I get complacent (sp) and eat a little more the week after, thinking it's ok. Then I gain and tighten up the next week so I lose alot again!
I think I need to find a happy medium!
I've not been feeling hungry the last few days either. And I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the porridge?

awww, thanks guys, you are helping me IMMENSELY. Feeling much more positive and able to cope now. I've promised to make a nice cake on sat when friends come around but i will syn it before i touch it and make sure i send it home with one of them.
I know theyare lookinging for hte old posts. . . . i've got a lot of the recipes off the lose weight thread that i printed for myself, but i have no idea who they belong to. IF the worst comes to the worst I can post them all back up at some point.0 -
katiepoppycat, here's my suggestion for what it's worth... how about getting one of those little mini-stepper things and then when you're having a cooking session, grab 10 mins exercise while stirring the pots? Three times a day and you could burn around 200-250 calories and hardly even notice.
I am so glad you're feeling better anyway, there has to be a way you can lose weight and maintain your identity, even if it means it simply takes a bit longer.
bails, thank you for your suggestions, loving the orienteering type one especially! We do a fair bit of hiking and camping (in the summer!) so that one is right up our street.
Brighton Belle, perhaps Petrichor is back at the shopsHope all goes well for you tomorrow at the Doc.
