Just moved in and switched supplier - old supplier want me to set an account up?

Hey all,
I have moved into a rental property in March. My landlord was with iresa, however when I carried out a comparison, Oneselect was cheaper. I switched to one select, and provided them with my meter readings of when I moved in. Oneselect confirmed all set up, and DDs have been taken.
Iresa are now contacting me - I have provided them with my meter readings of when I moved in, and the date. They are now saying I have to set up an account in order for the switch to go ahead. Is that correct? As far as I am concerned, the switch has gone ahead and my landlord has advised them he has moved out. From what I have read about iresa, there is no way I would want to set up an account with them, and I have not read anywhere that a new account has to be set up with the old provider to enable the switch.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You have to sign-up with the existing supplier and give them the meter readings on the day you move in before you can switch. You cannot just move in and switch suppliers because you are considered to be on a deemed contract with the existing supplier.
The existing supplier will charge you for any energy used from the day you move in to the day you switch so you need to ensure that they get an accurate meter reading otherwise you could end up paying for the previous tenants use.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Above is correct; you are on a legally binding 'deemed contract' with Iresa.
You had better contact Oneselect and get the DD cancelled. If you don't get it sorted now it will be a source of trouble for months ahead.
In fact it doesn't say much for Oneselect's staff to tell you it is 'all set up'. They should be aware that they have to liaise with the losing supplier(Iresa) and get an agreed date with meter readings tor the switch to take place.
It is also pertinent to point out that unless you set up an account with Iresa and pay them, they can prevent you switching.0 -
As both said above - Once you've set up an account, you can then initiate a switch.
Step 2 of the switching process on the OneSelect website explains2 Welcome to OneSelect
A few days after sign-up we!!!8217;ll email you a Welcome Pack. We!!!8217;ll agree a supply start date (usually in around 3 weeks) with your current supplier.

You cannot switch a supplier without having a supplier.
Just like you cannot switch bank account unless you already have a bank account.
You moved in in March; it's now May.
Unfortunately, you will now be charged for those 2+ months at the supplier's outragiously expensive default tariff.
And it'll probably be June before any switch actually occurs, so you may wish to consider what tariff will be best for you until then.
(Iresa have no early exit fees to worry about)0
