Morning all :coffee: :j
OK, so I'm not jumping for joy, but I definitely don't feel as bad as I deserve to that's for sure. My sensible head must have kicked in at some point because I was in bed by 10pm having had 2 pints of water and a couple of paracetamol. There's no sickness, and no headache although I might need a nanna nap this afternoon :rotfl:
Normal service shall resume today - as normal as possible anyway. I have tutoring this morning (money desperately needed) so I need to pull myself round as soon as I can. I've also been hankering for scones so I'm trying to psyche myself up to making some. I know that they are basics but I really do lack that confidence in my cooking. I'll see how I feel once I'm home later. I need to cross 2 frogs off the list, and I need to make 2 little PADs to the penny savings pot if I can possibly scrape it together. Also have done no school work at all so I don't think that I can ignore that much longer... However, I'm going to try and take things as easy as I can because it may be the case that I'm wiped out after tutoring :rotfl:Not giving up

I often read your diary but don't often post. I am in total awe of you teaching chemistry.
My youngest son's chemistry teacher was a huge influence in his journey to becoming
a doctor. Have never forgotten her! Give me English Literature over the sciences any day,
but then it is good we are all different.
Scones...... the biggest tip I was ever given is, when they reach the dough stage ready for rolling
don't roll them like pastry! Just shuffle the dough about a bit with your hands and pat a bit with the rolling pin. The dough needs to remain thick when you cut them out, that way they are large when removing from the oven. You don't get as many out of the mixture but the ones you do get are good.
Good luck.0 -
Hillwalker- I've just left CCL exactly the same advice on the Small Things thread! I don't roll scone dough out either & they rise beautifully - plus no rolling pin to wash up!2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Hello :hello:
I have survived
Just about. I am shattered and desperate to go to bed but I'm just going to hang on for another hour.
Didn't get lots done, but I did my tutoring (so we can eat this week :rotfl:) and braved the scone making, thanks to everyone on here encouraging and giving me tips. I have 8 gorgeous tasting but not very good looking cheese scones. Will serve some with my soup from the freezer for dinner tomorrow, but I sneaked a couple for tea this evening. I had a bag of SR flour in a tin that's been in my cupboard for months now. I need more tips from you lovely people about what else I can make with SR flour apart from cake. I do have some dried fruit needing used up but am less keen on sweet scones.
I didn't get round to doing much schoolwork. However, I'm sort of half planned. This sometimes works out better in the end because I don't stress when things don't go exactly according to my plan. And I'm mostly in specialism tomorrow so lots of chemistry.
Thanks for posting Hillwalker - I'm pleased your son has had an inspirational teacher. I try my best, but I definitely have good days and bad days :rotfl: However, the kids see me as human and someone they can be 'safe' with because I don't try and be perfect. I'm rubbish at practical but it's entertaining for us all :rotfl:

What about cobbler? Which is basically scones, but on top of stew / stewed fruit. Good winter fare.0

Really glad you had a nice day/night out the other day there. Very much deserved.
I do love a good cobbler. And a good scone, with jam and clotted cream. HAS to be clotted cream!!0 -
Crumble? Either fruit ones or savoury ones?
Muffins? You can make savoury ones by adding grated cheese & anything you like, really......leftover cooked broccoli, crumbled stilton, chopped cooked bacon, ham, olives, spring onions, herbs, you name it. Sweet ones can have chopped fresh fruit in or dried fruit, whatever you like. Very easy.

Evening all :hello:
Not really sure what's been up with today... ds woke up in an absolutely foul mood, and the kids were 'challenging' today as well. I asked my head of department if I seemed grumpy but he insisted it wasn't me (for a change). So I was quite frustrated at work, although most lessons went well (half planned is definitely sometimes better as long as you have more than you need in terms of activities).
Monday is always a bit of a write off - I get up quite tired, then don't stop at all between about half seven and half three (had to choose between lunch and the toilet today) because I'm teaching all day. Plus, the first of the January exams was today as well, so my workload is going to ramp up over the next week until Feb half term. So I'll say in advance, don't worry if I go quiet - I'll just be really busy doing 2 full time jobs. This will be particularly tough this time round as I've gotten used to getting much more sleep these days. :rotfl: I need to get my lists and time organised sooner rather than later and make sure I find some time for winding down.
I have been productive with the frog list, and crossed 4 things off there today which is good news for staying on top of other stuff. I'm almost on top of school work but need to maybe do an hour or so here tonight if I can bear the slow speed of my laptop.
There's nothing else exam wise I can do before Wednesday at the earliest so get on top of everything else.
Chased up my mediation form. I won't believe I have it until I'm holding it in my hands but I've been told I can collect it tomorrow. If I do it will go straight to the solicitor with instructions to get on with court action as soon as possible. I'm so frustrated with the slow pace of all of this, although according to most it's happening mega quick - not for me. I made the decision months ago and I'm stuck waiting for other people - I suppose this will teach me to be patient (ugh).
Thank you all for the cooking suggestions - I'm determined to give some of it a go, although it might end up on the frog list...:oNot giving up
